Shrine of Remembrance CEO Dean Lee has blasted the takeover of the war memorial by anti-vaxxers and angry construction workers as “absolutely disgusting”.

He said he had not seen a protest on the scale of Wednesday since the Vietnam War.

“This protest has no relationship to the purpose of this place,” he said outside the Shrine.

“(Protesters) are dishonouring the service of the Shrine.”

Stuart Robert, the employment minister interviewd on Sky News “it’s really important that we respect the shrine of rememberence and remember what those who have come before us have done for us in the name of freedom and remember the freedom we’re going to provide for our communities by getting vaccinated” … it’s hard to believe that’s not satire.

  3. Franx says:

The protesters at the Shrine were peaceful.
In effect, they were taking sanctuary in that place built as a shrine to the memory of the fallen and their compatriots.
The opening of fire on the protesters was thus a violent despising by the state of an ethos of both the past and the present.
Such a wrong must be challenged.

Absolutely disgusting is the behaviour of Victoria Police and their political masters.

Exactly right. Given the events of the last two years, it will be the subsequent attending of ANZAC and Rememberance Days by state and federal politicians that will pollute and desecrate their memory.

Gray Connolly, among others is distracted because ‘shrine’.
Whatever the shrine is, it is not more important than people’s lives.

  7. FlyingPigs says:

The arse-wipes bemoaning ordinary folk heading to the Shrine ignore that it was those same peoples forebears, the common ordinary people, who fronted up to fight for Australia in lots of Wars.

fkn RSL allowed the then xunt head of The Australian Uni-Party, Julia Gillard, to lead an Anzac March to the Shrine wearing a beret with a red star!

Sadly, yes. More sad, is that it appears from first hand accounts, that the police corralled protestors on St Kilda Rd towards the Shrine by blocking off alternative routes.

I also fear that Connolly and Vermeulle are being distracted by argumentative struggles (my body, my choice) into thinking that this vaccine mandate serves the common good.

just who are the police state scum.

good to see people praising those who literally pissed on the monument.
