Just no, I like going to the fresh food market.

  2. Lee says:

Sounds extremely communistic and Stalinist to me.
Does he expect farmers and all those on the food chain supply all the way up to the vendor to make no profit at all?
As usual, the pontiff is talking through his far-left hat.

  3. a reader says:

Surely the church must be questioning if he isn’t an Anti-Pope at this stage

  4. Tel says:

Even Pope Francis still has opportunity for last minute redemption.

If they value their place in the Revolution they will, Comrade…

Never forget, Francis is a scion and beneficiary of the Perónist era. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more authentic throwback to South America’s leftist flirtations in the late 60s and 70s, where you knew the ‘faithful’ (like Ché and Fidel) by the trails of their dead…

  6. Davey Boy says:

Seriously, what’s left for this Pope guy to do? Announce that the Communist Manifesto will replace the Bible? Ffs.

Might try to get my hands on that book, thanks Tel.

The Peronist Era ended in 1955, when [the then] Jorge Bergoglio was 14 years old.

  10. Rex Anger says:

Wow, Grigory. It’s as if you were actually paying attention to the scion and beneficiary bit…

Here’s Everything You Need to Know about Peronism
Juan Perón’s policies wrecked the once-wealthy Argentinian economy.

  12. FlyingPigs says:

But the scary part is that even after Bergoglio departs the scene there still exists a cadre of communist inclined thinkers in The College of Cardinals.

What next, Emperor Xi appointed as first Chinese Pope?

  13. Ed Case says:

How was Bergoglio a Scion ande Beneficiary of the Peronist Era?

  14. Not Trampis says:

He is not saying get rid of markets he is saying you need something more than markets to alleviate hunger.

We certainly do in Australia. That is what charities do.

  15. Shy Ted says:

Beat the man and grow your own bugs!

Of course he is, Comrade Paxton. Using buzzwords right out of Classical Marxism.

if food is not a commodity (an item deemed valuable to trade for other things), then what is it? Rationed?

And what is the logic of ‘solidarity?’ Is this a nice-sounding take on Marx’s “From each, according to his ability, to each, according to his need?”

Sounds pretty much like abolishing markets in favour of imposing centralised distribution (i.e. Rationing) authorities to me…
