Hilariously, the Premiers are now running out of unvaccinated people to blame.

Wow, that article. It’s very revealing of the mindset of the “experts”. Take this for example:

Prof Esterman said the experience of places like the United Kingdom had shown vaccinations alone were not enough to keep the virus under wraps and that some restrictions would be needed to keep cases from overwhelming the hospital system.

“Even when there are 90 to 95 per cent of people vaccinated we still have to retain some public health measures and one of the easiest ones to retain is mask wearing,” he said.

Or to put it another way: Vaccinations don’t work! Nor do masks of course, but hey, these petty tyrants have got to oppress the masses somehow.

  2. Chris M says:

places like the United Kingdom had shown vaccinations alone were not enough to keep the virus under wraps

Yes indeed – in the UK govt data vaccine efficacy is running at more than MINUS 100% in most age groups, meaning more than twice as many vaccinated catch Covid per population unit. So folks compromised immune system will need additional assistance going forward.

  3. calli says:

Well, how about that! According to our new Dill in Residence, 95% is Magic.

    Very Sciencey.

  4. twostix says:

Find me the terms of trade with Pfizer, etc – guarded as a national secret, and I’ll show you the bit that says they’ll only provide us with these products if (among a million other thing – zero liability, etc, etc) the government actively maximises and maintains vaccination coverage in the population at 90%+ levels, and (this is the killer) we must buy and use a stated minimum amount of doses per year for the next X number of years (at least 2023 or 2024 by the looks of it). Any violations and they pull out and no more ‘jabs’ for pip squeak market Australia and massive penalty rates apply.

Which I suspect is why the government, despite ‘securing’ a bajillion doses for Australia, also signed up to the COVAX system: as a backup.

  5. rosie says:

Really don’t care about ‘cases’ any more.

  6. rosie says:

Do the Scandinavian countries run this gloom and doom in the newspapers on a daily basis?
I read an article a couple of months ago that said Berlin was getting more cases than Australia but nobody cared.

  7. twostix says:

See here, forty million doses by December was planned.

I.e 90%+ by the end of the year.

This is why the screws are being turned, Perrottets 95% December suprise, QLD’s segregation.

Ironically NSW might be getting punished for QLD’s recalcitrance, Scomo is probably telling NSW to make up the numbers, and QLD is deliberately dragging its feet knowing how badly it will hurt the Federal Libs to not meet the ‘targets’.

  8. C.L. says:

The 80-90 percent “magic” is also important for the minority it creates. The Premiers have all pushed the same work-shopped scientific lie that the unvaccinated are ‘unsafe’ to the vaccinated. This will soon morph into the un-boosted are a threat to the boosted. The downside is that as cases and deaths continue, the ghetto-ised unvaccinated will have a government-mandated alibi. At that point, the Premiers will default back to “new normal” rhetoric and simply reintroduce masks and ‘restrictions,’ blame rule-breakers etc. It’s a cycle that can only end when governments start losing office.

  9. C.L. says:

The vaccines have now killed 12 times more people than died of covid in Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania, South Australia, the Northern Territory and the ACT combined.

To put it another way, the vaccines have now killed 74 more Australians than the Vietnam War.

  10. cuckoo says:

There’s a timely passage in today’s scripture readings, from Wisdom 6:1-11

Give ear, you that rule over multitudes,
    and boast of many nations.
3 For your dominion was given you from the Lord,
and your sovereignty from the Most High,
who will search out your works and inquire into your plans.
4 Because as servants of his kingdom you did not rule rightly,
    nor keep the law,
nor walk according to the purpose of God,

5 he will come upon you terribly and swiftly,
because severe judgment falls on those in high places.

  11. twostix says:

The 80-90 percent “magic” is also important for the minority it creates.

Yes the lockups are completely a numbers game.

It’s astonishing hearing announcements that “at 80%” or “at 90%” unvaccinated people will start being punished. That we sit here perfectly free today at 79%, but tomorrow at 80% suddenly we’re banned from life. But why not at 75%? Because you can’t ban 1/4 of the population from society – that won’t be accepted, but, apparently you can indeed ban 1/5 of the population – the behavioral modeling shows that 80% is the tipping point in a mob.

  12. twostix says:

It’s also a little rattling to understand that all the ‘nudge’ units and ‘behavioural’ psychologists and ‘data analytics’ teams which are made up of people who did things like PHD’s in psychology and so spent significant time being taught about the studies done on mob behaviour, group dynamics, the dangers of exploiting them that were done mid-late last century in order to study and understand what went on all over the world – in terms of populations being manipulated and ginned up by governments during so it wouldn’t happen again. What we’re finding out that one generation later they’ve taken those studies and research – immediately discarded the reason they were done, then taught about (“don’t ever do this”) and simply started using the data and studies to manipulate the mob for their ends.

To wit (and the banality of evil), the ABC yesterday talks to Griffith University consumer behaviour expert Joy Parkinson about imprisoning people until they comply – watch the language:

From a marketing perspective, she suggests appealing to people’s “fear of missing out” (FOMO) and using more “positive” language to tackle hesitancy.

“Fear of missing out if they can’t go and do things, see family or friends or get to travel,” Dr Parkinson said.

“Family is really important to most people, so if we talk about them being able to see their family, spend time with their family.

She’s talking about locking people up until they comply – using their desire to see their family against them, and spinning it into a lovely chirpy tea with scones experience.

  13. local oaf says:

The 80-90 percent “magic” is also important for the minority it creates.

    Absolutely true.

Australia has way less than 1% of the population as recorded covid cases. When there are 90% “vaccinated”, that will leave only 2,600,000 people left, most of whom are unable to interact with the rest of the community due to restrictions.

If 1% of them become cases(26,000), and 4.6% of them are hospitalised (current rate) that only adds up to 1,200 people nationwide.

There’s no way the un-“vaccinated” are the main source of covid cases “overwhelming” our health system and endangering the “vaccinated”.

Which “evil sociopath” is that, C.L.?
    Not Dictator Dan, I gather.

    Read that this morning.
O’Neill is nearly always spot-on, and is full of commonsense, a quality sadly lacking these days, mostly in the MSM and politics.

IF you persecuted 10% of the population (or for that matter 25% or whatever amount) based on race, skin colour, religion, disability, age, wealth or any other metric so beloved of the left, there would be fits of outrage. How is this discrimination any fairer? It would be unbelievable except when you remember it’s the left. Hypocrisy is their entire reason for living

  23. Chris M says:

but, apparently you can indeed ban 1/5 of the population

And inflating these vax numbers by 15% as they do is intended to apply further psych pressure “oh you’re just part of a tiny minority” = 5% sound a lot different to the reality that is 20%.

Clearly someone who knows about data analysis … the “UKHSA Efficacy Stats Death Watch: Week 44” is both sad and hilarious at the same time and it tells you the deep problems we have holding our high tech society together in the face of massive corruption and ineptitude.
