An Irony Curtain Has Descended

“TO maintain the support of his people,” says Marcus Kolga in an anti-trucker extravaganza for the Toronto Star, “Putin has created one crisis after another…” Canberra, Washington, London, Paris, Berlin, Toronto and Brussels would never do that would they? Kolga thinks the President of Russia orchestrated the freedom convoy in Canada – as also, presumably, the bouncy castles, snow fights, hugs and lawful opposition to an unlawful government. Who knew the former KGB monster had so much in common with Mahatma Gandhi? Kolga’s essay is one of the best examples of trope-packed distraction paranoia currently online for marveling. It all sounds so familiar: ‘intelligence’ experts warn democracy is under ‘threat’ by Russian and Celestial Octopi, that protesters are their pawns – justifiably liquidated by the West’s willing new gestapos – and that all of us will be ‘safe’ if we obey the state and its unelected Cassandras.

The most interesting thing about these arguments is how nationally and politically interchangeable they are. Re-write the names, places and protests and Kolga’s thesis is a doppelganger for cliff-teetering prognoses of doom in the New York Times or The Australian almost every day of the week. And the best part for the ruling class is that it makes little difference to the automated machinery of misdirection which legacy party happens to be in office. Boris Johnson, Jacinda Ardern, Mark McGowan, Peter Dutton and Joe Biden all subscribe to the Uniparty goal: preserve novel totalitarianism and blame any opposition to their own lawless extremism on Russia and China. It isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s an obvious fact.

This isn’t to say China and Russia are, by any understanding, goodies of international relations in the 2020s. It is to say that today’s ‘West’ is not your grandfather’s West. Its moral superiority over militant nihilism and barbarism has been systematically destroyed from within. A few days ago I was reading the comments beneath a column on Ukraine by Paul Kelly. One contributor chastised another for insipidity in defence of civilisation and pledged that he personally would always stand with our “friends” in Europe. Homosexual ‘marriage,’ industrial-scale abortion, the mutilation of children’s bodies in the name of ‘transgender rights,’ the arrest of Christian preachers in England and Finland for preaching the Gospel, the burning of churches, a war on Christianity, the hatred of Jews, capitulation to Islamic invaders, the institionalised degradation of the family, the abolition of national sovereignty, the nazification of public health, the demonisation of anti-mandaters, storm-trooper brutality… Sorry, no. Western Europe is not my friend.

The West’s extempore Ukraine pivot is a tawdry escape from a reckoning for homegrown crimes – most committed in the name of pandemic ‘measures.’ Nominally, it is led by the handlers of a US President hated by a large majority of his citizens. America on his blank-stare watch has become a violent hellhole, his party’s coup d’etat against Donald Trump has been exposed and the economy is in the toilet. Lining up ravenously at this beguilement buffet are a British Prime Minister on the verge of a party-room execution just two weeks ago for mocking the population he imprisoned; an Australian PM facing oblivion for ratting on his base a dozen times too often; a Canadian premier who ordered protesters robbed, beaten and horse-trampled; a French President whose country is one more Notre Dame or Charlie Hebdo away from civil war; these and the other chaos-engulfed leaders of Germany, Austria, Italy and elsewhere are the Ceaușescu-haunted tyrants weeping oily tears for Ukraine. Please. Vladimir Putin is just the picture. The West is Dorian Gray. To save the world – as I believe we should – we have to save ourselves first.

    Nailed it. Superb piece C.L.

  2. Lee says:

And to think that leftists have been mocking conservatives and those on the right over alleged “conspiracy theories” for years!

  3. HGS says:

    Yes, nailed it.

  4. Franx says:

    So, how to save ourselves.

  5. rosie says:

The author gives us another version of the ‘people are sheeple’ having their minds controlled by the ‘thought leader’ they don’t like.
And yes it’s time to re Christianise what used to be Christendom.
    France can be first.

  6. rosie says:

A pièce de la résistance CL

  7. rosie says:

Though to be fair to Macron the absence of soldiers on the streets of France suggests the muslim threat is muted, for now.
Last time I was here approximately half of France’s soldiers were deployed to patrol the country, very noticeable at railway stations.
I have yet to see one soldier, though I have seen plenty of railway stations.

  8. Vicki says:

Nailed it CL. Weep for the memory of what once we held dear.

  9. DrBeauGan says:

    Superb, CL.

  10. Pedro the Loafer says:

Top shelf, CL. Wordsmith par excellence.

    Well done.

  11. rickw says:

    Excellent!

  12. Tel says:

Looks like Putin has recognized the independent regions, and moved to offer them full military protection. Exact border location slightly ambiguous at the moment.

Kiev of course is responding as per an invasion … although they couldn’t control those regions before and have even less chance of controlling them now. Given that Russia was covertly offering support to the breakaway regions, it’s now made that formal by putting forward overt military force.

The EU must do what Biden tells them to, which will no doubt include refusing to buy gas … thus making their people freeze with all the Global Warming and hottest Winter evah!!!

In terms of discouraging missiles in Ukraine, that extra bit of land won’t make much difference. I guess they figured might as well try and settle the final border at some convenient place.

  13. Great read.

Need to post more in my humble opinion.

  14. Further, I say to any who will listen I read 3 websites and 3 alone. Catallaxy, Spiked and the Ace of Spades – covers the major Anglo spheres. All 3 link to whatever needs reading, being an MSM piece or even twitter.

I can now add Currency Lad.

CL will disagree but his writing is similar to Ace’s. I love Ace, awesome stuff, the piss taking and vulgarity is right up my alley. But if I need the same but higher brow, CLs place is where to be.

  15. Eyrie says:

The western Europeans are a bunch of degenerates and unfortunately their diaspora are no better.
    Great article C.L.

“The EU must do what Biden tells them to, which will no doubt include refusing to buy gas … thus making their people freeze with all the Global Warming and hottest Winter evah!!!”

Haha. Bring it on Just remember, Germany has been very quiet throughout this little scrape between Russia and Ukraine…..because good old Germany, thanks to Green zealotry and its adherence to the cult of climate change, has spent the last decade shutting down its coal fired power stations and scrapping its nuclear power plants, making the country extremely dependent on Russian gas.

Speaking of the cult of climate change and its ghoulish pagan princess, Greta the Gruesome, two years ago Putin was one of the few global leaders to have the chutzpah to actually call out the ridiculousness of the west fawning over the little pagan princess.

As for “One contributor chastised another for insipidity in defence of civilisation and pledged that he personally would always stand with our “friends” in Europe“…..I ask, what Europe is this that I’m supposed to stand with….

Is this a Europe where in 2022 you’ll be visited and charged for “hate speech” by local police for uploading on Twitter a ditty mocking the fact that a man insists he’s a woman, just because he puts on a dress despite having a penis and a beard?

Is this a Europe where in 2022 you’ll be visited and charged by local police for “hate speech” for insisting that women and girls have their own spaces such as toilets, change rooms and prisons?

Is this a Europe where in 2022 you’ll be visited and charged by local police for “hate speech” by pointing out a historical fact, that Islam is not a religion of peace?

Is this a Europe where in 2022 every incident of Islamic terror is labelled “mental illness”?

I could go on and on and on. The thing is, this is not 1938 and 1939. I don’t and won’t support such a Europe, if you call me insipid, that’s a badge I’ll wear with pride.

Somebody wrote a few days ago on DB’s Cat that Putin and Xi will do us slowly. I’m not sure about the “slowly” part. The west is a stinking rotting corpse so it might not take them very long.

  17. Hugh says:

    Great, C.L.

    Prayers

  18. Megan says:

Well written, C.L. The pea brains are leading the West into oblivion.

Not our Grandfather’s West indeed, more’s the pity.

  19. Not Trampis says:

you really are an ignorant fool.
Evidence that Biden is hated? None. The only attempted coup was by Trump and his mates.
for an economy in the toilet how do you explain the largest increase in employment since the end of WW2 and this one but one example.
If you restricted your criticism to inflation you would have a case but not you and of course you are caught goebbellsising yet again

you people live on another planet and we should expect anything other you would be a Putin apologist.

  20. Boambee John says:

Non Mentis goes full on Soviet style statistics. Remember when the Soviet economy was so great they could not be touched? Until it collapsed virtually overnight.

Hint for the mindless Non Mentis: Never trust the statistics put out by an authoritarian government.

PS, is this the Biden Boom you were babbling about a while ago?

PPS, you are big on polling, perhaps you should look up Hiden’s latest popularity data (if you believe that sort of thing).

PPPS, still rabbiting on about the only unarmed insurrection/coup in history? Come on man!

PPPPS, speaking of living on another planet, how is life on Uranus?

PPPPPS, your poor standard of punctuation has slipped even further. You should have tried harder to finish kindy.

  21. Not Trampis says:

you are just as bad and of course could not back up any of his lies.

This is what people do here just make things up. Very sad. no wonder you loved Trump.

  22. Buccaneer says:

Gobellsising, sounds like something Dobbie might say in the Harry Potter series.

NM, why don’t you consult your cherished polls to find out if Biden is a well liked leader or not, I note your mate Trump is towelling him up in the better leader stakes at the moment. Even with the obvious oversampling that certain institutions build in to hide the ugly truth for him.

BTW, great post CL, I suspect the Irony Curtain descended again when NM chose to comment.

  23. Boambee John says:

    Non Mentis

you are just as bad and of course could not back up any of his lies.

This is what people do here just make things up. Very sad. no wonder you loved Trump.

It must be my eyesight, I did not see you provide any back up for your specious claims. However, you are quite correct in one point. You just make things up. No wonder you love Hiden Biden and (10% for the Big Guy) Hunter.

  24. Lee says:

Evidence that Biden is hated? None.

Too bad his popularity rating is terrible.

The only attempted coup was by Trump and his mates.

The only thing I can add to what John (8.29 am) has written is that your imaginary “coups” in the U.S. and Canada sound like the rantings of a madman.

  25. C.L. says:

    Thanks, people.
Always good when friends are on the same page. It makes it easier on those occasions when we’re not. 🙂
