Ukraine’s Nazi Azov Battalion not as cocky as it used to be

The commander of the last army brigade defending Mariupol has begged for extraction from the besieged city for his troops and for civilians who are trapped in the Azovstal steel plant and coming under heavy Russian fire…

“It may be my last statement, because we have only a few days, or even hours, left. We appeal to world leaders to apply the extraction procedure to the military of the Mariupol garrison, to the civilians who are with us here at the plant. We ask you to take us to the territory of a third country and provide us with security.”

That President, globe-scold and Nazi collaborator Volodymyr Zelensky won’t order the Azov dead-enders to surrender may indicate he actually wants the embarrassing extremists to be annihilated. Given Azov’s role during several years of ethnic cleansing atrocities, the battalion’s desire to avoid capture by the Russians is understandable.

But, but aren’t the Russians getting their arse handed to them on a plate?

  2. C.L. says:

That is the official story, yes.

  3. Lee says:

A leader demanding that others fight to the bitter end rather than surrender.
Now who historically has made the same demand – nay, order – before?

  4. C.L. says:

    Mmm. Indeed.
Note too that Azov has many civilians with them at the steelworks. How convenient. Were they ‘invited’ to join them for protection of for leverage?

Russians have never been delicate when handling a hostage situation.

  6. jupes says:

If only Australia’s Bushmasters had gotten to them earlier. That would have swung it to the Nazis for sure.

  7. Chris M says:

I don’t get the nazi connection thing.

Do they adore Hitler as their leader and claim to be part of the 3rd Reich?
Are they true fascists – as in socialists with state regulated corporate partnership?
Or just wanna-be’s with silly swastika tatts like some dopey goth kids have?

They have lost a lot more than they bargained for … meaning they will be more cautious next time they try this. In the Northwest region around Kyiv they have pretty much fully backed off and abandoned any hope of forcible regime change. They still have the option of destroying Kyiv from a distance with missiles and bombs … but let us hope they see sense and focus on establishing a stable border in the East, between Russian speaking people and Ukrainian speaking people.

It’s going to be one of those India/Pakistan separations but for the most part that did in fact work, and there’s been uneasy peace between India and Pakistan … so the same could happen here. It’s about the best you can do under the circumstances.

Azov still seem nicer than vikpol? Change my mind.

  10. jupes says:

Or just wanna-be’s with silly swastika tatts like some dopey goth kids have?

Yeah that’s them. Getting tatts while killing thousands of Russians in Donbas over the last eight years.

  11. C.L. says:

Tel, is there any evidence Russia ever wanted to take over Kiev and change the regime entire?

  12. Chris M says:

Jupes specifically the Nazi thing I’m asking. Or are all thug groups (Vik’s finest?) automatically Nazi now?

  13. Tel says:

Well they carged troops at the capital city, tried to encircle it, and demand everyone surrender … that has some hints of regime change.

How serious they were is anyone’s guess. Might have been a feint … but they would say that afterwards, wouldn’t they?

  14. C.L. says:

Yes, they would – and I’m not suggesting this military campaign has been faultless. No military campaign ever is. But I always read the Kiev theatre agenda as containment and degrading of the administrative epicentre rather than any plan to hoist the Russian flag over the Rada.

SBS now refers to the ‘far right’ Azov battalion in otherwise favourable reports on their activities. They must be something like Tony Abbott, I guess. Has anyone asked the Azovs what they think of guys playing in girls’ sports?

  16. Ed Case says:

LBGTIQ, Azov Battalion, Trannies, they’re all on the same side.
