Wagner guy?
Both countries are more than a little feral. St Petersburg is a bit of a centre for such things and the Azovites you know about. I’ve seen a fair few of tatts from both sides, some quite artistic in a Leni Riefenstahl sort of way.
Interesting question whether it is actually an accident, since French elites don’t like the Ukrainians much.
Signs are that the US Left is getting bored with the war, and Ukraine is short of ammunition. So it might actually come to a conclusion quicker than I had thought. Or perhaps it could just freeze back in the state of low level unpleasantness it had been before this phase.
Or perhaps it could just freeze back in the state of low level unpleasantness it had been before this phase.
Do you mean like the 14,000+ Eastern (Russian) Ukrainians that had been killed since 2014 by the Azov guys?
I think Russia will only stop when they have protected their people – the Azov/Uke military was building up at the end of last year to bring a final solution to the eastern problem.
“St Petersburg is a bit of a centre for such things “
Really? Care to provide a source for that?
Tedious repetition of Putin propaganda.
Hang on, we have been told by even two or three people here that Nazis don’t exist in the Ukraine, and it’s all Russian propaganda.
Maybe he is Buddhist or Hindu? Haha
Exactly Bruce, a fight between mad-ass cousins.
Hitler / Nazi stuff has a bit of fanbase in some parts of India, maybe Vlad will leave orders from the grave to have a go at them.
Cassie – Widely known and published about. Here’s one link.
Why are German neo-Nazis training in Russia? (DW, Jun 2020)
I’ll italicize some others as I don’t know what CL has as his link limit settings.
Neo-Nazi Rinaldo Nazzaro running US militant group The Base from Russia (BBC, 24-1-2020)
Neo-Nazism in Russia Was A Sure Sign of Things to Come in Georgia (Huffpo, 19-9-2008)
Assads nazistkriger (Norwegian state broadcaster, 15-11-2020)
2 Russian neo-Nazi leaders get life in jail (AP, 15-6-2011)
These took five or ten minutes to dig out. I’ve picked more or less reputable sources prior to Feb 2022, and I’ve included the Huffpo one because it fits with the Georgia situation which is analogous to the Russia campaign in Ukraine from 2014. The Norwegian one is about Rusich PMC which is another Russian mercenary company similar to Wagner. They seem to be more based in St Petersburg than Wagner.
It’s not really surprising in such countries after the fall of the Soviet Union that you would get such subcultures forming, and the participants would tend to be attracted to the military services of each country. There’re always dragons’ teeth in all nations, and if times are difficult they will find something to do with themselves. By now some of these people, like the bosses of Rusich PMC and Wagner PMC (see the link I gave earlier), have risen to senior positions.
As I’ve said numerous times this is a baddies-vs-baddies fight, rather like the Iran-Iraq War or the fascist on facist Italo-Greek War of 1940. It is possible to support one side or the other for geopolitical reasons but it isn’t appropriate to regard any one side as being a pristine hero. Neither of them are.
On second look that DW probably wasn’t the best to link, since they smear AfD with the neo-nasty stuff. Which is typical of the German MSM. But the key bit is that The Third Way guys trained in St Petersburg and that there’s a facility there. I haven’t dug to see if it’s a Rusich PMC facility but that would fit. Rusich would be keen to get recruits for the same work that Wagner bids on.
