I had no idea until about two days ago that much of synthetic fertilizers is made from natural gas. It’s funny the things that don’t get much publicity.

It’s a while since the ABC ran one of their favourite bits of file footage, the burning of an (empty) illegal immigrant vessel by Australian border authorities. Maybe it will be on tonight. It was being burned as a biosecurity measure but the ABC always put it in a context to suggest it was a bit of vindictive Viking pillage. Still, now that they’ve sacked most of their in-house archivists, they might have trouble finding it.

    China will help them out.

  4. Chris M says:

“For the farmers of Sri Lanka, their problems began in April last year when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who now stands accused of pushing the country into financial ruin, implemented a sudden ban on chemical fertilisers.”

    Alternative near future headline:

For the citizens of Australia the problems began when Prime Minister AnAl, who now stands accused of pushing the country into financial ruin, implemented a zero emission ‘green’ energy policy.

  5. Chris M says:

“We are a tropical country full of rice paddies and banana plantations, but because of this stupid fertiliser ban, now we don’t even have enough food to feed ourselves”

    In AU:

We are a country full of energy resources but because of this stupid ‘green’ coal ban we don’t even have enough electricity to heat our houses and run our shops.

Do self-inflicted humanitarian emergencies qualify for refugee status?

  7. NoFixedAddress says:

    Australia is an island.

Who is going to pay us because we are sinking beneath the waves.

But AGL did shut the Brisbane urea plant thank Gaia.

  8. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Some of the island nations who’ve been squawking lately have mountains taller than we do.

    Exactly this.

  10. Boxcar says:

A month after Sri Lank’s ban, the USA imposed sanctions on Belarus Potash exports. Belarus, with Russia, comprise 40% of the world export market.
One has to wonder how integrated the pure evil circulating around the world right now actually is?

  11. Entropy says:

Currently petrol has dropped to AUD$1.89/l near us. That is pre GST $1.72.
    @AUD=USD$0.70 that is USD$1.20 x3.79 =$4.56 a US Gallon.
While I understand the advertised price in the USA is pretax, and there will be state and federal sales taxes on top, if my calcs are correct, Biden really has done a job on their economy.

Don’t forget though the excise in Australia is temporarily halved @21.65¢. It will jump back up to 43.3¢ on 1 September and I do believe will have the CPI ratchet – isn’t it 5.1%?) applied for added reaming. That will hurt. A lot.

Do self-inflicted humanitarian emergencies qualify for refugee status?

    Mmm. Interesting point.
We shake our heads at what the Sri Lankan government did but we have no right to judge them. What Australia is doing is equally crazy.

  13. Jannie says:

The boats are coming and the MSM will classify them as climate refugees, not the victims of self harm. Every one a Labor voter.
