Sure. I won’t wait with ‘bated breath for when we get our next Severe Tropical Cyclone crossing the Qld coast for news articles saying “such disasters fortunately will happen less often with climate change”. All of this research rises to have its cake and eat it too, and can be summarised as “there will be less cyclones, but they will be worse”.
We are well overdue for a big one (even more overdue if we don’t count STC Marcia as a Cat 5, which I don’t). Maybe we get a brace of STCs next season.
The real biblical trouble will be when one crosses Cairns at high tide. It had three cyclones within five years one hundred years ago. Appalling timing given what was about to happen in the world economically, cumulatively they killed Cairns as a major town in favour of Townsville for decades. There have been none directly impacting the city since, and it is a low lying city with limited escape routes. A matter of time.
It doesn’t take a sage to predict that were we to have a severe cyclone or a number of them the narrative will change again to how this is all evidence of climate change. They’re not even trying anymore, they’ve marginalised any dissent to the point they are comfortable to pretty much say anything.
Embarrassingly for the thermageddonists the apparently effect of global warming is to produce nicer weather.
Do cyclones affect windmills or solar panels? Phew, thought not.
