And Putin on the Ritz forced Germany to have useless windmill generators and those shiny sun energy collector thingies.

    sure… he’s a bastard!

  2. Old School Conservative says:

most German homes use it (gas) for heating.

    Winter is coming.

    Winter is coming.

    Yep.

Europe at risk of civil unrest unless it returns to fossil fuels, EU warns (11 Jul)

Frans Timmermans, the second most senior official in the EU, said the threat of unrest this winter, a deliberate outcome of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, must take precedence over the climate crisis.

He said: “If our society descends into very, very strong conflict and strife because there is no energy, we’re certainly not going to make our [climate] goals. We’re certainly not going to get where we need to get if the lack of energy leads to strong disruption in our societies, and we need to make sure people are not in the cold in the coming winter.

Looks like the Europeans are starting to remember that their history includes tumbrils.

Big renewed propaganda campaign is on for the war over the past few days, I’ve noticed. An absurd piece from MoD/CIA organ, The Times of London (dutifully re-published in The Australian, as usual) reporting that Ukraine now has 1000,000 men at arms ready to push out the Russians. To the credit of the BBC, a few high quality military analysts were quoted saying the claim is nonsense but is being touted for its morale value. The campaign includes more begging for heavy weapons, of course. More tens of billions of dollars.

As Glenn Reynolds would ask, what would we do without the EU?
I mean, seriously. No shit, Poirot.

I just keep seeing that clip in my mind of the German delegation to the UN chortling away as Trump warns them of the danger of depending on Russian energy supplies.

I know it should be wrong for me to feel schadenfreude but …..it just seems sooo appropriate.

  7. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Ukraine does have a million trained guys after 8 years of conscription.
They don’t have weapons to arm them with, and don’t have ammo for them.

Hence all the begging letters lately. Unfortunately for Z the West have run their own stockpiles down to dangerously low levels. And the production lines aren’t up to the consumption rates. By contrast the Russians inherited the old Soviet habits of squirreling away huge stocks and never throwing anything away. They’ve reactivated 60 year old tanks for the DPR for example. A T-62M is going to turn a Bushmaster into a sad and ugly pile of burning scrap metal if it ever sees one.

I can easily foresee that if the West is going to continue down the road of obsessive, insane Green energy and agricultural policies, it will lead to massive civil unrest worldwide, with rioting and looting, and possibly even famine, war, and civil war.

Wow! Imagine how bad it would really be if this was deliberate…

The Bushmaster will outrun it easily, with modern engine and drive technology which has become vastly more efficient in modern years. These are the stats, just looked up on Wikipedia so probably not perfect.

Bushmaster: 7.2L V6 turbo diesel, 100kph cruising speed on road and a respectable 6 miles per gallon.

T-62: 39L V12 standard diesel, 50kph cruising speed on road and mileage is 1.3 gallons per mile. The engine holds more volume than a modern small-car fuel tank!

Small and fast vehicles have some advantages, depending on terrain. The South African Eland armoured cars were beating up much heavier and slower Soviet era T-55 tanks … provided sufficient room to manouver was available, and where a group of Elands could coordinate their operation.

That said, Ukraine can get quite boggy … and if all you do is follow the roads you will probably be a sitting duck to an ambush or artillery that was prepared for you coming. The Bushmaster does not look to be well suited to the kind of forests, river mud, and haphazardly paved surfaces they are likely to encounter. I doubt it will be able to utilize it’s speed and agility under such conditions.

Only via creatively adding up men in the military, quasi-military, policing and all other conceivable disciplined/emergency services. It’s a Dad’s Army number.

  12. Fat Tony says:

Anyone know how many Bushmasters our political Over Lords have sent to the Ukraine & how many have been destroyed thus far??

  13. Tel says:

Tony, I believe that we promised 60, delivered 20 and 1 has been blown up … but it did work correctly, in as much as supposedly the occupants survived, although that’s difficult to confirm.

You gotta love the way we have assigned them to “peacekeeping operations” and at the same time the Russian are similarly doing “peacekeeping operations” … with so much mostly peaceful activity, who needs a flipping war?
