It seems politicians are now advising the experts.

Well, yes. That’s because the ‘expert’ Chief Health Officers are floundering around offering conflicting advice. The number of punters who realise that the ‘rona is just a cold or flu increases every day. Elected politicians see this but the CHOs just see their power slipping away.

The ABC thinks this is a bad thing.

  2. bollux says:

Hadley was always a sook and the biggest promoter of Covid hysteria. Last year in Qld with 7 deaths from Covid, all elderly, the NRL had to play to empty stadiums because of the “risk”. This year with 40,000 “cases” and dozens of deaths we had 52000 at the Origin match. What changed? Answer- the political expediency around this nonsense. Obviously our pollies are taking orders as well as money from overseas.

  3. cuckoo says:

Nine news was simply hysterical over the state government’s decision not to reimpose mask mandates. The first item on their bulletin that night was one talking head after another after another – all the usual suspects including that ghastly american gorgon whoever she is – insisting that mandates be imposed.

I could understand it when Nine was carrying water for daniel andrews, whatever he did, but they now seem to have found a higher loyalty – to what?

    Killer point.

  5. C.L. says:

From their point of view, cuckoo, it makes sense. Six figure salaries, much of their ‘work’ pyjama-friendly or zoom-able – and they really believe they’re fulfilling the great promise of ‘journalism’ by saving somebody.

Sheridan and Bolt were discussing how shocking it is that we’re not Doing Something about covid in 2022 earlier this week.

You can’t ignore the age demographic too.

A lot of these people are lifelong “agnostics” and “cultural christians” who woke up one morning in 2020 and realised the 70 year summer of love is about to end with a sniffle. If you’re staring at oblivion after a life of material comfort perhaps you’d do whatever it took, and sacrifice everyone else to keep the wheels turning for another year or two as well I guess.

  7. twostix says:

    Also on Sheridan…

Sheridan is a Catholic, and has written two books on Christianity. According to Karl Schmude writing for Quadrant, “Sheridan is more than a cultural Catholic. He actually believes; and he is deeply conscious of the springs of conviction that lie beneath a higher faith.”[3] He is married to Jasbir Kaur “Jessie” Sheridan, who practises the Sikh religion along with their three sons.[9]

Do I read that right? His sons are being raised as Sikhs??

    🤣

I guess he’s read the room, if to get by in the upper classes last century you had to be an Anglican, this century you’d better be Hindu or Sikh.

Is there a single normal person anywhere in the Australian establishment class!?

  8. Pommy Al says:

Bolt and Sheridan are obviously wankers of the highest order.

  9. Old Lefty says:

Speers usually interviews conservatives much more aggressively than Labor and especially the Greens. But there was a delicious moment during the election campaign when even Tanya Plibersek had enough and shot back ‘Sorry to interrupt you David. Please carry on.’

  10. Pommy Al says:

I actually believed fucking bolt was a so-called ” Investigative journalist “. Years ago.

    He’s a fucking disgrace.

  11. cuckoo says:

Had to laugh at Neil Mitchell, who speaks some sense sometimes, stating straight-faced that covid is now the “leading cause of death in Australia”.

  12. calli says:

Old and frightened of death and disability. They haven’t come to terms with the fact that they won’t live forever.

This is a classic case of projecting one’s deep seated fear onto others and expecting them to toe the line. It is so widespread that self awareness is drowned by voices just like theirs. Everyone says it so it must be right, and of course it’s right because it accords with their over inflated celebrity egos.

They are wrong. People need to live their lives without fear and by taking reasonable steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from harm. This is what normal people do.

The Hadleys and their ilk are cry-bullies. They need to be treated with the disdain they deserve.

    Early onset of dementia?

  14. Not Trampis says:

Omicron and its variants are far worse than the flu. We are on track to have 15,000 die from it let alone how many people need to go to hospital. The last flu season we actually had 1,500 died.

We need some sensible policies like getting back to 1.5 metres and the wearing of masks indoors

  15. Boambee John says:

Also, avoid the internet, Omicron can hitch-hike on electrons.

  16. Petros says:

Exactly, Calli. The silent generation largely accepted their fate. Not so for the baby boomers. Subsequent generations are no better but in their own messed up ways. At least some of the slow learners are getting it. Bolt has always been a slow learner.

  17. Baba says:

When did this idea that hospitals should be empty of patients take hold?

From an episode of Yes Prime Minister?

  19. Lee says:

From an episode of Yes Prime Minister?

Partly correct, it was actually Yes, Minister.
    A classic episode.
A fully-staffed new hospital with not a single patient.
Sir Humprey Appleby was happy though.
In a case of life imitating art, there was a similar case in Melbourne about ten years or so ago, although there was no money for medical staff IIRC.

  20. Ed Case says:

The last flu season we actually had 1,500 died.

ABS figures up to 2019 were 4500-5000/year over all Australia.
By the way, older Australians don’t want to live forever, but they do trust the Government to give them accurate advice.
That’s why so many had the 2 shots plus the Booster, because they believed it was the responsible thing to do.
As it turned out, the only people who ended up in front were the people who ignored all the advice.

  21. Bluey says:

One of the things I found most despicable about the lockdowns and mandates was it disproportionally effected the blue collar and working class that have to physically go to work.
Fine for the professional class to skip their commute, save time and money working from home, perhaps even dodging the jabs, but the people the Labor party claim to represent got absolutely screwed. Still had to go to work, often having to choose between losing everything and taking a “vaccine” they didn’t want.
The irony being it’s largely been the WFH professional class I know who voluntarily took the stuff.

  22. rosie says:

I see the term ‘cooker’ is getting used on twitter by those very cross that Dan isn’t taking the ‘health advice’.

  23. cuckoo says:

And typically, Dan isn’t around to front the fury of his army of jilted Karens, leaving that to the health minister. What a coward.

Given that boomers were the ones who carried out most of the industrial scale institutional child sex abuse in the 1970’s-1990’s that’s now being exposed all over the place….that’s pretty gross.

    Free love maaaaan.

    LOL

  26. Chris M says:

Woah. Donald Trump killed his ex-wife. Another clot shot death.

‘Warp Speed’ was his biggest fail along with failing to tackle election security / corruption.

I think you’ll find that “industrial scale institutional child sex abuse” has been around as long as institutions have existed. It’s a prey and predator thing.

“… now being exposed all over the place…” is most likely being driven by your hated Boomers.

The child sex rings of Rotherham and other British cities is on an “industrial scale” but is not being done by Boomers.

Honest question – why do you have an obsessional hatred of Boomers?
(This question is from reading your posts for years)
