She wants senators to go on praying to Aboriginal spirits

“On the one hand we’ve had almost every parliamentary leader applaud the diversity of the parliament and so if we are genuine about the diversity of the parliament we cannot continue to say a Christian prayer to open the day,” Senator Lines said. “Personally, I would like to see the prayers gone. I’m an atheist. I don’t want to say the prayers.”

Only in the ALP can a one year ‘career’ be rewarded with a Senate throne and $369,674 a year.

  1. Bruce of Newcastle says:

How about Parliament opens with all the appropriate acknowledgements? For diversity and inclusivity.

They could have the Lord’s Prayer, a smoking ceremony, an Islamic prayer, one each for Buddhist and Hinduism, a suitable Green procedure of some sort and a Free Mason ritual. Maybe a few others also.

If they have enough of these they’ll never get anything else done, which would be an improvement.

This is how we end up with individuals who are unqualified to represent anything other than the group think of a few out of touch elites.

  3. Entropy says:

I think it would be fair to ditch the Lords prayer and welcome to country ancestor worship

  4. Not Trampis says:

only being a teacher is a job??

Given that the parliament is no longer dominated by christians why have it. It has become meaningless. The ALP are a mile away from the party of say Andrew Fisher.
Would any today have read Tawney for example.

  5. C.L. says:

There is a difference between ending the Lord’s Prayer custom out of a pragmatic – even respectful – desire to ensure it isn’t associated with the profanity of modern politics and its suppression in odium fidei (out of hatred for the faith).

The former is respectable, the latter contemptible.

When a lefty has lost Crikey ….

‘…a suitable Green procedure of some sort…’

Oh, oh, oh! Could it include the ‘true believers’ not emitting any CO2? A 5-10 minute ceremony should suffice.

We could hand out complimentary Darwin Awards. This would do wonders to end divisiveness, not to mention grant the country with a sudden and substantial increase to IQ.

  8. Buccaneer says:

When a lefty has lost Crikey ….

Yeah, it’s kind of quaint though, watching Crikey spout all the fake moral talking points, regurgitate the alarmism designed to avoid scrutiny and coerce ideological compliance, then not realise that Andrew’s is just more brazen than the rest and that all these tactics are just tactics not part of some greater movement just a grab for power.

Had the left cared he might have been pushed out when the red shirts happened to start with or when he fronted the covid enquiry and couldn’t remember.

  9. Lee says:

On the other hand, I have little doubt that Lines and her ilk are in favour of pagan, made-up-in-less-than-the-last-fifty-years Aboriginal ceremonies.

Many years ago I watched the ABC silvertails, children of privilege and lazy wealth, mock and jeer Pauline because of her working class background and because she didn’t know the meaning of some fancy intellectual word. I wasn’t sure I agreed with what she was saying, but I admired her courage, and instinctively wanted to defend her against the PC wolfpack. She was a political naif, and had no idea how dirty politics would be, and how they would come for her, up front and behind her back, I didn’t think she would be able to stand against the massive odds against her and I pitied her.

They threw everything they had at her, they took her money and they locked her up.
She has grown and mellowed, and is a lot more coherent and articulate. I don’t pity her anymore, she can handle the worst they throw at her. She is not just a brave woman, she is a bloody legend. Onya Pauline.

  11. Hugh says:

Hey, Senator Lines, I don’t mind you being an atheist. You’ll find out the truth at some stage. In fact, I applaud you having the courage of your convictions. You stand proud in a long line of atheists … Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro … really lovely people. I’m sure you’ll be their blooming rose.

Oh, and by the way: so you confidently pronounce you’re an atheist, but are you even a woman? Or, since you’re not a biologist, is that a question above your competence to affirm, along with the recently appointed SCOTUS judge Jackson?

Yeah, sure, I’m an atheist, but I don’t have a clue as to whether I’m a woman or not …

  12. Not Trampis says:

The present government did not introduce what Hanson objected to. It has been around for yonks. Why has she decided to object now.
I much prefer Lambie as the idiot you vote for. She has no-one lurking in the shadows behind as Hanson always has.

  13. Hugh says:

    Bruce nailed it, of course.

  14. NoFixedAddress says:

The woke commies have found their Lines to feed with Christians.

  15. Old Lefty says:

I dare – no, I defy- the Lines if the world to be as contemptuous of, say, Islam or Aboriginal spiritual beliefs as they are of Judaism and Christianity. There is no logical reason why they should not be, but if course logic and intellectual integrity have nothing to do with it.

  16. Perplexed of Brisbane says:

    Old Lefty,

We all know why she won’t criticize Islam or Aboriginal beliefs. The latter would be political suicide, the former possibly actual suicide (as the result of a fatwa).

Hugh has it right, she can be an atheist. She will find out the reality one day but it will be too late then. That’s why Christians don’t need to defend their beliefs with violence. God can bring judgement and retribution fairly and completely at His appointed time.
