The Merrick Garland of the Ummah, what he did was the logical apotheosis of woke cancellation.

  1. jupes says:

I wonder what the motivation was?

  2. Not Trampis says:

Surely it has more to do with the what was threatened to Rushdie from Iran all those many years ago. IF so it has nothing to do with whatever woke is and of course has nothing to do with the ‘left’ but rather the right.

  3. Morsie says:

According to the NYT notwithstanding the alleged assailant is a radical Muslim his motive is unclear

  4. C.L. says:

The attacker is exactly like the man who tried to kill Brett Kavanaugh – against whom Democrats also placed a fatwa.

Taking direct action against a public figure, artist or writer who crosses an alleged barrier of propriety is completely consonant with the modus operandi of the Western left.

Yes, the “Islamophobic right” are supporters of radical, extreme Islam.

  6. C.L. says:

“You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you.”

-Chuck Schumer’s fatwa against Brett Kavanaugh

Had Trump – or any conservative – said that against a Democrat or progressive it would undoubtedly have been called a threat, or maybe even a promise of retribution.
If Trump can be accused of sending coded messages to supporters, the same could certainly be said of Democrats.

  8. cuckoo says:

Waiting for the headline ‘New Jersey man attacks Salman Rushdie’.

  9. NoFixedAddress says:

Somewhere in the latest reports from credible American observers is detail of increasing Iranian terrorist activity in America.

Then you read about the attack on Rushdie let alone “someone” found dead in a lane somewhere in NY surrounded by ‘bio-weapons’ described as WMD/

Sure NT, it was Trump that did it… just ask John Howard the best friend the Australian Left ever had.

  10. Jannie says:

Well I hope he survives and gets well and sticks it to the bastards that did it. Hang in there Salman. I am reading his next book.

  11. False Equivalence says:

Trump fans should check out his links with the Saudis who are by the far the largest financiers of radical islamic terror.

    Falsie

Don’t be a prick-tease, give us the info.

Trump fans should check out his links with the Saudis who are by the far the largest financiers of radical islamic terror.

So Trump is an admirer of The Bush dynasty and their decades long machinations with The Saudis and that is not even considering The French let alone John Kerry.

  14. Lee says:

Trump fans should check out his links with the Saudis who are by the far the largest financiers of radical islamic terror.

While they are doing it, they should “check out” prominent Democrat links with the Saudis and the Chinese.
    Come on, air it all!

  15. False Equivalence says:

NFA/Lee: I don’t think you have been paying attention. Let’s say that you didn’t know about the Saudi links to the Malaysian/Filipino terror network. Or the Pakistanis active in West Myanmar? Or the folk who did the Bali bombing. Or maybe you didn’t notice the Trump links to MBS and MBS relations with Putin? And of course you had no idea about the 9/11 perps? Interesting that Trump didn’t manage to nail any Al Quaeda heavies yet his predecessor and successor both did. Coincidence?

  16. False Equivalence says:

Lee: maybe you don’t read much, but it was Ivanka who tried to get a Trump China brand deal from Xi. While Trump was playing nice with him. I haven’t notice any Pelosis begging Xi for a deal lately? Maybe the Taiwan gambit is a clever plan?

  17. Boambee John says:

    Falsies

Would that be the same MBS recently being cultivated by Creepy Joe?

And perhaps we you might brief us to on Hunter Biden and his Chinese links?

  18. Lee says:

And perhaps we you might brief us to on Hunter Biden and his Chinese links?

    Not to mention Ukrainian.

  19. Old Lefty says:

Rushdie is a fierce critic of ‘religion’, according to the GayBC/Arseholes Broadcasting Communism:

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-08-13/salman-rushdie-satanic-verses-controversy-biography/101330916

It would be insensitive, of course, to mention any particular religion. After all, those evil Christians are far worse. Cue to Vicpol raiding the Legion of Mary?

  20. NoFixedAddress says:

My natural modesty prevents me from calling you a false person but get up seems big for you..

So you’ve attended the Melbourne Bali Memorial?

And you know all about the incursions into Mindanao?

And the Chinese offenses against the sovereign countries bordering the so called South China Sea?

And what, Trump’s daughter wanted to get some product out of China?

    Far out!

  21. Tel says:

I feel bad about what happened … to put things into perspective though … today in 2022 getting stabbed in New York is not unusual. Crime is rampant and the police aren’t achieving much … it’s not a city anyone should want to visit.

  22. Old School Conservative says:

Tel, the stabbing of Rushdie was not some random event perpetrated by a nondescript guy against a hapless civilian.
Not “just another crime” by a long shot.

  23. Not Trampis says:

Yet again CL is wrong and of course what I thought was correct.

It is amusing to see a radically Islamist being portrayed as a hero of the left.
I am trying to figure out how Rushdie became a figure of the right the left so loathed except of course he never was.

  24. Boambee John says:

    Non Mentis

ROFLMAO, the be raving left routinely both portrays radical Islam as right wing and conservatives as irredeemably Islamophobic. Make up on what we passes for to your tiny minds.

  25. Lee says:

Speaking for myself, I have always admired Rushdie and considered him a hero for standing up to radical, extreme Islam.

The thought of it turns the stomach. A man stabbed for writing a book. And not just any man, but Salman Rushdie. The author with the price on his head. The author of the The Satanic Verses, the novel burned by Islamists around the world. The author whose act of ‘blasphemy’ at the tailend of the 20th century showed us just how deep the problem of Islamist intolerance is – and just how deep Western liberal cowardice is in the face of this most violent and unhinged variant of cancel culture.

    It’s TrumpPutin’s fault, naturally.

    You’re very normal.

  27. Lee says:

Already culturally cancelled for saying that transmen are not women, J.K. Rowling has now been warned to expect the ultimate cancellation for expressing support for Rushdie:

  28. Tel says:

Not “just another crime” by a long shot.

Old School, not saying it was my idea, nor that I’m an advocate for this way of doing things … but when one darker skinned man clobbers another darker skinned man, that’s the most invisible crime in the universe.

The left are very consistent on not seeing these things … on top of that New York currently had a policy of “Let it Rip” with regard to all sorts of violent crime. Why would anyone go to such a city by personal choice? I have no idea.

Re NY and its greatly increased crime and murder rate, successive Democrat mayors have managed to “fix what wasn’t broken” since Giuliani’s day.
I might have visited NYC even five years ago; not now.
