Albo’s Banana Republic

Irrelevant but obedient, the nominal Attorney-General wants Jan Sixer show trials, maybe arrests:

Mr Dreyfus has wholly backed an inquiry announced yesterday by Anthony Albanese, which he said could have legal ramifications…

Mr Dreyfus said the independent inquiry would be fast-tracked, and he expected the Prime Minister would announce the terms soon.

When the Prime Minister refuses to include the premiers – including Premier Andrews, for example – in an inquiry to work out what happened during the Covid period and the reason for different decisions, and he says… ‘we’re not interested in looking at the Labor premiers, we only want to look at a former Liberal prime minister’, I think the penny starts to drop for Australians.” Peter Dutton

He said Mr Morrison could be called upon to testify as to how the appointments happened and who knew about them.

“We need to hear from him and the other ministers in the former government to get to the bottom of what happened,” he told the ABC’s News Breakfast.

Why not bring back the death penalty just for these inquiries?

  2. Not Trampis says:

There are no Jan 6 trials. There is a house committee looking into that disgraceful even although.
We do not know a lot of the details of what occurred here. for example what happened in PMC. did they know, did they give advice, did they get in touch with department heads. They are just a few questions.

and we do need to know how in the hell robodebt got so large after the government knew it was illegal and that is but one question.

    Please translate.

Didn’t the Solicitor General ask these questions? if not, why not?

and we do need to know how in the hell robodebt got so large after the government knew it was illegal and that is but one question.

Indeed, but it is an entirely different question.

  4. Lee says:

I’ll believe Albo and Dreyfus are being principled and apolitical when they launch an inquiry into Dan Andrews and the Victorian government.

Otherwise I’ll just have to assume this is purely a political witchhunt à la the Biden administration.

  5. Buccaneer says:

The only reason the sleazy government can even consider continuing this investigation when the sg outed them as having no legal basis for further investigation, is because they know their mates in the media will go along with it.

The only convention that is consistently being ignored is that the media is supposed to hold the government of the day to account.

  6. Not Trampis says:

The Solicitor General was asked questions of law. not of management process. someone needs to read his missive.

A federal government cannot have a Royal commission into a State government.

It is ironic but both the Jan 6 committee and these inquiries are the complete opposite of a banana republic.

  7. C.L. says:

The first thing a junta does in a banana republic is put the opposition on trial.

A federal government cannot have a Royal commission into a State government.

I wonder would that apply if the state government was a Coalition one? Silly question, of course not.

It is ironic but both the Jan 6 committee and these inquiries are the complete opposite of a banana republic.

Indeed, because a banana republic would never hold an inquiry in which neither the accused nor his representatives are allowed to cross-examine witnesses, nor call witnesses, nor appear before the inquiry.

  9. Not Trampis says:

The royal commissions will be examining everything including public servants.

both this and the Jan6 investigation ( not a trial) and actually enhancing democracy by trying to stop what has occurred.
CL just loves coups. Even badly planned ones based on obvious lies.

you know we did have not one but two royal commissions set up by Abbott that examined purely political events. Both dies a short death and CL said not a word except to express support for them.

both this and the Jan6 investigation ( not a trial) and (sic) actually enhancing democracy by trying to stop what has occurred.

If it has already occurred, it cannot be stopped. No matter how hard the DemonRats and their RINO lackeys try, they cannot prevent what happened on 6 January 2021. It is over (though not in the demented minds of the fascist left, full of the lust for power).

And the rest of your comment is similarly grammatically confused. Back to pre-school for you.

  11. Old Lefty says:

My biggest worry is having that idiot Dreyfus picking High Court judges. The woke left in his home state of Victoria will be out for revenge over the Pell acquittal.

Sez the guy who wouldn’t know his banana from his Albow.

  13. Baba says:

Robodebt was introduced over five years ago and almost immediately proved Centrelink data collection and processing was shit. It’s still shit.

  14. Entropy says:

Robodebt was a very good example of bureaucratic overreach though. How on earth it got to the point that income averaging, rather than actual income was used by the government against its citizens is appalling. It should only have been used as an audit tool for identifying people that needed looking at. That Morrison was not awake to how this could unfairly impact individuals shows how nit across the detail he was. And Turnbull too of course.

Albo did have a RC into it as an election commitment, so it has to happen, but seeing as there has already been investigation by a court complete with recommendations it will end up devolving into a star chamber against political enemies, in torque Trotskyite style.
