Weird that leftist politicians and celebs are never defamed

It isn’t possible to defame a lefty politician since, by and large, they’ve been doing everything they’re accused of.

Thinking as I am of a certain US President.

  2. Jannie says:

And, by and large, they do everything they accuse others of.

  3. Entropy says:

I wonder what the actual damages would be. Laming lost his career as a politician in a safe seat. That would have to be worth an awful lot of moolah.

  4. Entropy says:

It wou,d be hard for a leftist to bring a successful defamation as the accusers would usually have truth as a defence.

  5. Morsie says:

The important thing for the left is that Laming is a “former ” politician. The damages are the price of getting an apparently effective politician out of parliament.

  6. John of Mel says:

    “9News has now seen material..”

They based all their “reporting” of this on hearsay???

  7. Not Trampis says:

wow who has forgotten a certain greens senator

  8. Buccaneer says:

Please spell it out for us Trampo, after all, according to you, we are all just dumb deplorables. Who exactly defamed said greens senator and how does it align with this situation?

  9. Mantaray says:

Not Trampis. And not to forget the Oz democrat polly. And not to forget the DLP Senator Aand not to forget the the the the…..

    FFS. Write the name.

  10. Shy Ted says:

“Got any naughty photos of your missus?”
    Wait for reaction.
    “Want some?”

  11. Old School Conservative says:

I am especially pleased to see that the usual weasel words of faux apologies “for any hurt that may have been caused” have been omitted in favour of “for the hurt and harm caused”.
But still, Morsie is right. Laming is out of Parliament, the process has been punishing, and the mud will stick to conservatives as a whole.

  12. Boambee John says:

I suspect that Non Mentis is referring to the Mehreen Faruqi matter. Which did not involve any defamation.

Or he could just be imagining something that never happened. Like reliable, continuous ruinable power from solar panels and wind generators (that now don’t need wind to generate electricity).

  13. Tom says:

The Nine/Fairfax newspapers have become a manual on how to lose money in publishing and that illness has now apparently infected the parent company.

Simply replace sceptical editors and sub-editors with ideologues pedalling ideology and watch the revenue walk out the front door in libel settlements.

With its purchase of Fairfax, Nine bought a corporation with a death wish — because, like the ABC, it is staffed by a workers collective with veto power over managers forbidden from managing.

The Nine board should be alarmed that 9News Queensland published a libel that a work experience legal student would have picked up.

  14. C.L. says:

    9News has now seen material.

Even this is a lie. Now seen… now?
Makes it sound as if new evidence came to light.

What they mean is their characterisation of the photograph was self-evidently false from the start but they thought they’d get away with it because #MeToo, misogyny and “growing calls.”

  15. Buccaneer says:

When your whole paradigm rest on repeating an assertion enough times to convince the feeble, shallow and entitled that it’s the troof, publishing and obviously misleading item becomes second nature.

    Ala Trampo.

  16. Not Trampis says:

Oh dear a certain greens senator sued another Senator for libel and won. It wasn’t that long ago.
    alas deporables have feeble memories

  17. Buccaneer says:

What has suing another senator got to do with the media publishing something without checking the facts?

You truly are a dope, you’re too self absorbed to realise I specifically asked that question because I already knew the situation you were talking about was a complete red herring.

Please, show us a situation where the media defamed a leftist… your superior memory should be able to post something very quickly with evidence and all.

  18. C.L. says:

Kellogg’s Wrong Bubbles for breakfast again, Trampo?

Half right/half left David Leyonhjelm was successfully sued by Sarah Hanson-Young for comments the court found implied the Greens senator was a “misandrist and a hypocrite.”

Hanson-Young was not defamed by multiple networks and publications, she was not accused of a very serious crime, no Walkley awards were won, she was not forced out of Parliament and the amount awarded was chump change ($120,000).

There is no meaningful comparison between these two cases.

You prove again that you have no abiding ethical values but only a loyalty to far left-wing political figures and parties.

  19. Buccaneer says:

In fact, Leyonhjelm was roundly condemned by the media for insulting Hanson-Young. It was a cheap insult and he shouldn’t have said it, even if he thought it was true.

  20. Boambee John says:

    Non Mentis

alas deporables (sic) have feeble memories

Alas, our memories seem to be better than those of a so-called “progressive”, who didn’t even understand the subject under discussion.

    Sad, low energy.

  21. Lee says:

Oh dear a certain greens senator sued another Senator for libel and won. It wasn’t that long ago.
    alas deporables have feeble memories

Except that you never mentioned the details in that first sentence before.
All you wrote previously was the extremely vague comment:
wow who has forgotten a certain greens senator
How the hell is anyone supposed to know what you are writing about from that?

  22. Boambee John says:

    Lee

And the events were quite dissimilar.

  23. Lee says:

    True, John.
It is a “false equivalence” as a lefty who used to post here until recently would say.
BTW, strange, or maybe not so strange how both FE and Passing By have not commented here since Preposterous was banned.
Maybe I am reading too much into it.

  24. Entropy says:

The other unedifying aspect of this story is that the original “scoop” received a Walkley award. As if journalists aren’t busy discrediting themselves, now their little gold star award has been tarnished and shown to be a fool’s gold star.

Their eagerness to see off Laming and the LNP more broadly meant there was not even cursory due diligence of the nomination before giving the award. It was all the perfect kind of politics media.

  25. Not Trampis says:

    they were two libel cases!!!
Typical deplorables lazy, stupid and ignorant and cannot even admit when they are wrong.

  26. Buccaneer says:

Trampo, your superior memory still hasn’t produced anything other than to call other commenters here
    lazy, stupid and ignorant

Pathetic insults we’ve all become accustomed to hearing from you as a substitute for actual argument.

    Projection much?

  27. Boambee John says:

    Non Mentis

    they were two libel cases!!!

But in only one case was a Wokely award given out. But keep squirming, it is amusing to watch you trying to make up a case based on different events.

  28. Not Trampis says:

read the title of the article. I did not write it.
It is clearly wrong. It is badly wrong.
If anyone could read here they could have advised CL of his article but lazy stupid and ignorant people could not.

  29. Boambee John says:

    Non Mentis

read the title of the article. I did not write it.

Read the contents of the article. Neither CL nor I wrote it.

It is clearly wrong. It is badly wrong.

    List the errors.

  30. Buccaneer says:

Only the deliberately obtuse would not realise that the headline and the article that comes directly after it did not relate to David Leyonhjelm or any other defamation situation not perpetuated by the media. But we’ve already pointed that out.

  31. Boambee John says:

    Buccaneer

    Only the deliberately obtuse

    You misspelled “genetically idiotic”.

  32. Buccaneer says:

It would be forgivable behaviour from an idiot.

  33. Entropy says:

    It’s Steve from brisbane right?
