May he rest in peace indeed. But I can’t help noting that his death was a gift to the leftist media desperately seeking something to distract from the outpouring of love for QE2. Overlooking the fact that if, like most of Australia, you live outside the ABC/SBS/Age bubble, you would literally have never heard of this guy. His later ‘celebrity’ was almost entirely the work of the SBS. And anyway, doesn’t this Gorrie guy understand that for media like the NYT, a history of crime and drug abuse is a positive, something to be admired?
lambasting the late Queen and new King for what they allegedly haven’t done for reconciliation, atoning for colonialism etc etc. This conveniently forgets that, other than in exceptional circumstances (such as Whitlam’s attempt to govern without supply), the sovereign (and the governor general) act only on the advice of their ministers, not as tribal big men. Of course they wouldn’t know any better if they are victims of what passes for an education system these days.

I sort of recognised Charles – maybe he was in some ads? – but no, I hadn’t really heard of him. Not exactly in the Gulpilil league.
Your dead (non-Aborigine) don’t count, apparently.
Yes, the key word in that statement is “our.”
Odd. Karla Grant is advertising her interview with him on high rotation on SBS. It would be very, very culturally wrong to mention his name now.
