Players now in talks with Davo’s Bait ’n Tackle

Ms Rinehart will provide “short term funding” so that Netball Australia can find another major sponsor.

“Contrary to media reports, Hancock Prospecting has not insisted that its name be worn by the Australian Diamonds in the current Constellation Cup series when overseas,” the company said in a statement.

“Hancock and Roy Hill does not want to add to Netball’s disunity problems and accordingly Hancock has advised the governing body that it has withdrawn from its proposed partnership, effective immediately.”

I’ll give these flighty damsels in distress about 24 hours before they ask for a government bailout.

And if they do, tell them to “get stuffed!”

    Also from Hancock’s statement

“Contrary to media reports, Hancock Prospecting has not insisted that its name be worn by the Australian Diamonds in the current Constellation Cup series when overseas and was advised that the netballers had no concerns in wearing the name on the team dress for the series,” the statement continued.
“Further, Hancock does not support gambling or smoking.”

That’s the “morality” of the time, years in the making – anti-gambling, anti-smoking, pro-qwertyism, pro-indigenous (anti-white), anti-fossil fuels. It’s the pagan “Temperance League” and it’s everywhere, pretty well all of it pushed by the UN (mostly the WHO “priesthood”) and the Klaus mob. Politicians are lazy and not very bright. They simply accept UN policy, referring to it as “best practice”.

    Woke and woker.

  4. Petros says:

Rinehart could put that money to a lot better use. Women don’t care for women’s sports anyway. They would prefer to watch the Kardashians.

  5. and says:

The Hancock group sounds as woke as can be for a mining company, just not woke enough for the netball players. From earlier in the week:

“This is a company that doesn’t suit Netball Australia’s values,” said Norder, who is a Sports Environment Alliance ambassador.

“We’ve always stood up for social justice, we’ve always been anti-gambling, no smoking … and there were, and are, other avenues to source sponsorship.

“Lang Hancock’s past and what he said in regard to Indigenous people is just not suitable for Australian sport. Netball Australia has always tried to be inclusive… we now have Donnell (Wallam) in the team.

“This is not a respectful way to act and even if Donnell wasn’t in the team, we must do better.

“I did a zoom with the players just to educate them on doing right by the sport but also doing right by yourself and honouring your own values.

“I just wanted to have a conversation is that money worth your reputation and what you stand for as a person?

“Just so they are making good decisions for themselves because they represent the clubs and our country but also themselves.”

Norder had also hit out at Netball Australia’s partnership with Hancock Prospecting when the multi-million dollar deal was announced earlier in the year.

“As a proud @SEA_theChange ambassador, it’s unacceptable to put our brand alongside an open climate denier,” Norder tweeted on Thursday.

“We have put too much into our sport to give social licence to a company who’s (sic) profit-at-all-cost attitude puts our future in danger. Be better”.

Welcome to country is included in children’s story time at the library these days.
    Doesn’t mean anything.

All the same, I have zero sympathy for the netballers.
To a man, they will be a pack of posturing hypocrites.

What better reason to start riding your bike to work, to the shops or to your place of exercise today {and always}!

Diamonds are “disappointed” at the withdrawal of sponsorship, according to a carefully manicured statement obviously drafted by their PC spin doctor. No doubt the federal or WA governments will indulge them on the taxpayers’ teat.

    Unbelievable sycophancy.

I hope the whole thing goes belly up. Not because there aren’t decent players on the team (I’ve met a bunch of them and they’re normal people) but because it might finally result in the spilling of the entirety of the project and allow a fresh start. Netball Australia as an organisation deserves to sink. The sport itself doesn’t.

  15. Petros says:

    Straight up attendance, Rosie.

No matter how much the Kardashians/Jenners and the show change, America loves to watch the drama that unfolds around them. The demographics of audience members that tune into the show every week are mainly women ages 18 to 49. The target audience is much the same, aiming for people between the ages of 18 and 49.

That’s the TV show … presumably the Instagram audience would be younger.

Sorry to explain it to you Rosie but most women obsess over comparing their backside against other women and trying to pick up a few fashion tips. If you don’t do this, that’s because you are the odd one out.

I know, I know, feminism failed before it got out the gates … annoys me also, but possibly for different reasons.

My feel good story of the week. F&$% around and find out, as the Americans say. And I hope Gina pays a bonus to whichever lawyer drafted this exquisite bit of sarcasm:

  21. Tel says:

Start a new sport open to the mining industry only … call it bucketball.

Get a channel on Rumble … and here’s the secret sauce: make it entertaining to watch.

  22. C.L. says:

    make it entertaining to watch.

Well, that’s the elephant on the court, isn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong; I approve of ladylike sports like netball, swimming, gymnastics and, say cricket. Women in boxing rings and on football fields, of course, are just embittered look-at-moy idiots betraying their nature in a paradoxically imbecilic attempt to imitate men.

So the fact that netball doesn’t have an enormous TV revenue pie to slice up – or the same universality as basketball – shouldn’t be held against it. But it is a reality that must, of necessity, constrain the financial ambitions of its players. None will become millionaires playing for the Diamonds. Gina Rinehart was basically subsidising a glorified hobby and allowing all of these women to make a little on the side. But no – they insisted on dentally inspecting the gift horse. Stupid, sanctimonious, ungrateful, disloyal and greedy. I have zero sympathy for them.

Recently I was dining in a restaurant, and I had the misfortune to endure a replay (presumably) of an AFLW match on one of their big screen TVs.
Although I tried to avoid looking at all, it was difficult; it was like watching a train wreck.
The skill level was close to non-existent, primitive actually, and would shame a teenage boys’ competition.
In fact one team had only scored one point until late in the last quarter, before they finally kicked a goal.

The Ticket can confirm cabinet minister Bill Shorten, who in his previous role as a union leader helped drive significant changes in the sport, has been approached by stakeholders who have lost confidence in Netball Australia.

Meanwhile, other sports sponsored by Hancock Prospecting have been forced to consider their own positions.

In 2005 Mr Shorten led the Australian Workers Union, which the netball players association (ANPA) sought to join.

It resulted in the sport’s first commercial broadcast deal and the establishment of the Trans-Tasman netball series, the forerunner to the current Super Netball competition.

Sounds like good old fashioned Union thuggery. Read on for more examples of it.

Archer is right to not grant the athletes’ requests. They are the employees. They are not in charge, nor should they be. I still stand by my theory that the one indigenous player wouldn’t have a clue about what Lang Hancock said 40 or 50 years ago if it hadn’t been prompted when Sharni Norder “had a zoom” with the team the other day.

Also, what was the broadcast deal for the ANZ Trans-Tasman league with both Foxtel and SBS if not commercial? Foxtel then and now is hardly interested in charity cases.

Every single person working in a senior role at Netball Australia should be sacked. Everyone on the board. All vocal players should be given a show cause notice as to why they should be allowed to continue to play in the national team. The selection policies should be tightened up regarding bringing the sport into disrepute. Former players should be reminded publicly by a brand-new CEO about their ethical responsibility to the community players and if they’re feeling brave call out Norder et al about their hypocrisy. The Players Association should be treated like any rogue union that undermines the business of their members’ employers.

Finally, the entire board should be replaced by Netball Mums and Dads. Normal people from the clubs, no professional board sitters. Nobody without a direct financial and community involvement in the game should be allowed to be on the board. At a minimum you must have either played in 5 of the last 10 years or been involved with your child’s club committee for 5 consecutive years prior to being eligible to run.

  25. a reader says:

Also, the Australian players should be thankful that they have jobs in Australia. One English Netball SuperLeague team (and the Rugby teams in their commercial partnership) shut up shop for good this week.

  26. Entropy says:

    Reader. Reader. Reader.
Having a rule like “bringing the sport into disrepute” would just end up being another tool for the left in the woke wars.

Do the sisters think they are playing soccer?

Thank you again, a.r. for your expert commentary.
And for that ABC link – which was a nauseating eye-opener.

So they ran off to Bill Shorten, eh? Looks like my government bailout prediction is looking solid.

  29. a reader says:

I’m not sure expert is the right term, just a pissed off fan of the sport! But thanks for the compliment. I’ve been involved enough with another Olympic sport that doesn’t have the sponsorship clout but does have the same sort of governance issues. It just makes you roll eyes. I have a special loathing for professional board sitters and people who want to turn their chosen NSO into a lefty parliament which happens extensively, especially with sports based in Victoria. Think Cricket, Netball, AFL et al.

Fair point Entropy. Playing the left at their own game doesn’t work
