First link has been taken down. The Rebel News report doesn’t say he banned the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but that it was being investigated for ties with the Russian Orthodox Church, which I believe was banned in Ukraine a fair while ago.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Patriarch has been very vocal and especially his archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, in supporting the Ukrainian war effort, likewise the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill does likewise in strongly supporting the Russian effort.
Breitbart now has an article up with more details:
Ukraine bans religious organizations with links to Russia (2 Dec)
I think that accurately describes the actions being taken. However you are correct that the Zelensky regime is repressive, although I would call it fascist one party state rather than Stalinist. I doubt Zelensky is a Stalin figure since he seems more to be a salesman rather than a leader. The real power is likely with Zaluzhnyi.
Incidentally both nations’ chief rabbis have said that Jewish people should emigrate posthaste. Which to me seems a very prudent thing to do.
Every Orthodox church will reliably get into line and not buck government policy … especially on military matters … this has been a long established principle.
The real victims here, are the people who have been cracked down on over and over … and that’s the Unorthodox church. No one offers much empathy to those guys.
Have replaced downed link with Reuters copy:
Ukraine to prepare law banning churches ‘affiliated’ with Russia.
In the East, they say the same thing about Western churches. For example, they would say the American evangelical churches associated with the GOP backed 20 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ah, yes, because there are searches, there must be traitors.
Not unlike how Putin is persecuting evangelical Christians in Russia then.
Bad cousins.
Billions of US$ in the ‘leaders’ bank accounts.
Cheers BoN, for clarification.
I can see no truth in Ukraine, intentional or accidental.
