Lamenting ‘misinformation,’ Langton concocts a phony spectre

It’s unfortunate that the Nationals have injected misinformation and vitriol into the debate so early on. I’m terribly disappointed that a Warlpiri person – or a Celtic-Warlpiri person – has kicked this off. It would be terribly unfortunate for all Australians if the debate sinks into a nasty eugenicist, 19th-century style of debate about the superior race versus the inferior race. We have to take these matters seriously, this is too important to play nasty electoral politics about.”

Divide et impera. They are exploiting any division in society to make us hate each other.

and the prize for the first person to bring up Eugenics is………

and I particularly like the way “or a Celtic-Warlpiri person” was so casually dropped in there.

  3. Cassie of Sydney says:

Langton is a nasty person. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her smile.

  4. Entropy says:

I think it very helpful that Langton chooses to identify Price as a Celtic-Warlpiri woman.

Does that mean Langton is going to more correctly identify her ancestry as well in the same way?

  5. Buccaneer says:

She called people who don’t agree with her racists, but also sledged price as not really black. There is no principle at stake here, it’s just a naked grab for power.

The media use that almost every time they are forced to mention her. Little warning label/dog whistle to let you know she’s not a real aborigine, like, er, Bruce Pascoe. “She’s the margarine of indigenous. The Diet Coke of indigenous. Just one calorie. Not quite indigenous enough.”

  7. Bruce of Newcastle says:

I thought it was illegal to call someone a white aboriginal?
We should ask Justice Bromberg about that.

  8. RogerW says:

And just how Anglo/ Celtic is Langton, now that she herself raises the issue?

    Cassie

    That is her smiley face!

  11. Wally Dali says:

Price describes herself as Celtic-Walpiri. I think it’s a nice standing challenge to the doyens of the largely urban brand of First Nations Rentseekers- like Langton, Grant, and Thorpe- to confess that they are not purely and soley aboriginal by genetics, and a reminder that they are hardly aboriginal by culture.

  12. dover_beach says:

My God, that Langton quote is disgusting.

  13. John Brumble says:

No, no. The Nationals think their race is superior. You watch: the Nationals think they are so superior, their next step will be demanding a special parliamentary voice.

  14. Entropy says:

Yes she dies. It is great that Langton has accepted that form of ancestry recognition. Langton should start doing similar about herself, rather than pretending it is somehow lessens Price’s ancestry.
