The real winner is Mark Latham. He has become Australia’s best retail politician. Daylight second.

    Fact check: true

  2. Lee says:

According to Politico and other sources the “uniparty” is a right wing conspiracy theory.

Which casts serious credibility on Politico itself, IMO.

  3. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Lyle Shelton got the plum first column slot, and is preferencing Latham.

Which works both ways. Mr Shelton has earned his battle armour as much as Mark has.

  4. jupes says:

I put Latham 1 on the senate ballot, the first Lib 291. True story.

  5. Cassie of Sydney says:

Go One Nation. Go Mark Latham.

  6. Lee says:

Which casts serious credibility doubts on Politico itself, IMO.

  7. Christine says:

Mark Latham has always had what it takes.
He’s probably conquered his wild side; or age has

Here’s hoping the votes roll in for One Nation.

  8. Petros says:

    Predictions?

  9. C.L. says:

    I’m game.

    Perrottet by a nose.

  12. Petros says:

I love your optimism, CL. Labor to win easily and the minor parties get about 20 percent of the total vote.

  13. C.L. says:

It isn’t optimism really, Petros. I don’t care if the Liberals lose.
    They deserve to lose.

  14. Baba says:

Jacinda Adern transformed NZ. It’s totally rooted.

  15. Riversutra says:

    They deserve to lose.

but the future…..Kean takes over opposition leader of the Liberals and in fitting Looney Tunes fade out, it’s ” that’s all folks” and the lights go out for conservatism in Australia in our time.

  16. C.L. says:

When Perrottet absented himself from the funeral of the most senior Catholic churchman in history, I ceased having any interest in his political fortunes.

He also did nothing to protect the dignity of that funeral.

  17. John says:

I can’t see anything much about the numbers for One Nation.

It would be comically ironic and reflect upon the sanity of the electorate, if cost of living pressures were to reward the ALP with government in NSW.

  18. Lee says:

He also did nothing to protect the dignity of that funeral.

Perhaps because despite outward appearances, like Morrison, he actually has no principles and is a moral coward.

I am starting to wonder how many Aussie politicians are a part of the WEF or on the George Soros payroll/team.

  19. John says:

I’ve seen enough. Looks like the electorate are still overwhelmingly happy with Labor vs. Labor Lite choice and too scared to vote for freedom.

Extrapolating this, I think the Voice referendum will be comfortably passed later this year with the electorate happy to trust Albo to structure whatever details he wants later.

  20. Lee says:

It isn’t optimism really, Petros. I don’t care if the Liberals lose.
    They deserve to lose.

And fade into oblivion, to be replaced by a genuine centre-right to right party.

  21. John says:

to be replaced by a genuine centre-right to right party

Sorry to say, but I think we are both wishful thinking. From this NSW election and the recent Federal election, where are the votes for for this centre-right Party coming. People seem to be overwhelmingly contented to vote for the revolving door of Labor vs Labor Lite.

I feel certain if Liberals saw Freedom as a vote winner, they would have gladly adopted centre-right policies. But at the moment, these look like electoral poison. And politicians hate losing their seats.

  22. Old Lefty says:

Mind you, by ABC/Fairfax wokist standards Minns is a clerical fascist running dog of revanchist capitalist imperialism. Kean is probably too left wing for the NSW Labor Right.

  23. a reader says:

Paul Murray and Sharri Markson on Sky at the Labor party. Makes sense. Both have talked up Labor big time these last few weeks.

  24. a reader says:

Laura Jayes at Liberal party much more on top of the real reasons for this rout. She’s a better analyst than almost the rest of the Sky after dark line up combined

  25. Ragu says:

    LOL.

Latham is an arsehole. Punching cabbies? Totally lost the plot if you think that guy is on your side.

  26. Lee says:

Sorry to say, but I think we are both wishful thinking. From this NSW election and the recent Federal election, where are the votes for for this centre-right Party coming.

From disenchanted Liberal supporters who are not voting for Labor.

  27. John says:

From disenchanted Liberal supporters who are not voting for Labor

Unfortunately, the numbers show that’s not happening to any significant extent.

  28. C.L. says:

    Punching cabbies?

    That’s called an ad hominem.
    Try again.

  29. C.L. says:

    An early night indeed.

    See-ya, Dom. 👋

  30. Lee says:

Unfortunately, the numbers show that’s not happening to any significant extent.

Maybe because the Libs are virtually indistinguishable from Labor.

In the fairly recent Victorian election Labor would have been toast without preferences.

  31. Lee says:

In the fairly recent Victorian election Labor would have been toast without preferences.

Ignore that comment; it was the last federal election I was thinking of.

  32. C.L. says:

  35. Rafiki says:

I put in most of 7am to 8pm working for the Liberals at the Hill Top (NSW). At the end the primary count for the LA seat, this was the result:
    Smith Liberal 315
    Hannah- Climate Council funded 242
    Braiden ALP 350
    Thompson One Nation 201
    Webster Greens 72

As to what I learnt about them:
Smith – sitting member. Overweight and an unhealthy pallor. Was a plumber I think.
Hannah – former mayor of Picton. Looks like a typical Teal
Braiden – completed Year 12 last year. Fresh faced lad, a bit nerdy looking . Had one HTV helper all day, being a school friend and pleasant lad.
Thompson – no info. At no stage had a HTV helper.
Webster – no info. A passed middle-aged couple did HTV work all day. Not party members. He is a highly regarded potter and engaging type.

I got a ‘phone asking if I would help with HTVs as I did last time. In fact I hadn’t, and all I can think is that the LDP passed my name to them.
Very much not impressed by their pessimistic attitude and poor organisation skills.

The very high One Nation vote surprised me. None of them had a HTV to guide them.

Make of this what you will.

  37. Entropy says:

You worked for the liberals Raf?

    Why?

  38. Texas Jack says:

You worked for the liberals Raf?
    Why?

Not speaking for Rafiki, but at a guess there’d be quite a few more in here who were young and stupid once (like me)..!

  39. Rafiki says:

    Entropy
I didn’t plan this. But upon being asked (and all I can think of was it was due to my having worked for the LDP, who didn’t run a candidate), I thought —
    1. They aren’t Labor or Greens.
    2. The incumbent, Smith, has pushed, with apparent success, for a project I’m happy about; viz., the restoration of the train Loop Line, from Thirlmere to Colo Vale.
    3. It was, and turned about to be, an opportunity to understand political thought and behaviour of ordinary people and of (via 7 hours if amiable talk with other HTV persons) others somewhat active in politics.
    4. My special friend being away, I needed to get out and do something interesting.

    What did I learn?
    1. The Liberals in Wollondilly are in dire straits. I arrived late to the after party at the Bowral Bowlo, and it was a sad lot who were sitting around looking very glum. Very few younger people. I was bemused, rather than upset, that no-one spoke to me.
    2. The Greens, despite all the media coverage they get here, got little support and a bit of abuse. I got none.
    3. I saw at first hand how a Climate Council operation worked. It was well resourced and very active in the month before the election. Hannah chose Orange as her colour. Was this to attract potential One Nation voters?
    4. That One Nation did so well despite no publicity or urging. This 11-12% base could well be grown if there branches and proselytising around the Southern Highlands. As the Greens do, ON needs to feed stories to the local media.

So all up, it was hard work , but I learnt a lot.

  40. Seco says:

When Perrottet absented himself from the funeral of the most senior Catholic churchman in history, I ceased having any interest in his political fortunes.

He also did nothing to protect the dignity of that funeral.

And why? To save his job? He lost his job anyway but with his own dignity. So disappointed in our “leaders”. The Liberal Party don’t even have the stones to defend their own personal faith never mind much less important things.

  41. NFA says:

The Liberal Party of Australia is a myth.

  42. struth says:

The majority of Australians are stupid but think they are clever.

Now, with denialism such a deep seated problem, many are actually insane.
That meaning they are living in lies.

So they still think elections are above board while living in a socialist country.

You really couldn’t be more insane than that.

We have film of NSW pre polling ballot boxes being removed (before being counted) into private vehicles and driven away, and yet, look at the comments above.
And no one reacts to it or believes it might be worth raising as a concern.
Because they don’t want to believe that heading down to vote is just participating in socialist theatre …….living in lies.

I also have learned that you can’t turn them back to sanity with blunt facts.
    They visciously fight against them.
As their loved ones go the way of Choo Choo, every death around them actually makes them double down on living the lie……to live a delusional life instead of taking up a fight required in real life based in the truth.

That we are not concerned about election fraud can only come about because people have been lost to denialism.
They refuse to process what actually has happened in the last three years and spend their time dribbling shit due to living a lie.
Pretending it didn’t and the nation is as it was.

Poor Cassie of Sydney was sure one nation was going to do well.
Meanwhile anyone with half a brain yet not deluding themselves knew that all you are going to get out of any election now is harder leftism.
NO MATTER what the people voted for.

  43. Petros says:

As someone once said: you can avoid reality but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. We are in for tough times. The masses will take a long time to learn.

  44. Ragu says:

    That’s called an ad hominem

No. It wasn’t. And you know that

  45. Nix says:

The Mark Latham who just gave Labor a big leg up in NSW?
