  1. Someone wrote this somewhere in the Catallaxy sphere and it shall likely take a lot to convince me it shall turn out otherwise:

I have been pondering how this a voice would advise and fit in with government process.

The way this will have to operate is that there will be a The Voice Unit established in each and every government department. This unit will be effectively outside the departmental chain of command, administratively reporting to both the department and to a The Voice Central Agency, and it would not be a stretch to suggest the unit’s personnel will be appointed by The Voice Central Agency. The Voice Central Agency will not be part of the Machinery of Government established by Parliament and the Governor General, beholden instead to The Voice.

Every decision that a department might consider will have be to floated past The Voice Unit to see if there might be an indigenous interest and determine the level of consultation required and ensure that consultation occurs. The unit would ideally consist of indigenous people. While maybe not necessary on minor matters, the unit might even consult on each matter for decision with The Voice Central Agency.

In practicality though, The Voice Unit , or if a Director General or Minister is silly enough to disagree, The Voice Central Agency will decide what is and is not of indigenous interest and I suspect the remit of that interest would be very broad indeed and changeable, subject to whatever is going on at the time. And The Voice Central Agency will be the one deciding if there has been sufficient consultation, which will of course also be subject to change, subject to whatever is going on at the time.

Each Cabinet Submission will also be required to be signed off by The Voice Central Agency. There will be a specific section in “Consultation” that will be written by The Central Voice Agency, which will also write a “First Nations Impact Assessment” as part of the Submission. Needless to say, a Submission will not proceed without Voice endorsement that it is satisfied with consultation and supports the proposals.

The Voice Unit will essentially be Zampolits, and The Voice Governance Agency effectively a separate government, with multiple divisions, a smaller version of the government itself.

And of course, any medium sized to major corporation will need its own The Voice Unit. Small business will be on its own.

My only addendum is that we have three levels of government to which this can be applied. Are the enough aboriginals to fill all the roles?

  2. Fat Tony says:

Are the enough aboriginals to fill all the roles?

Silly man – of course there will be enough “aboriginals” to fil the roles…

  3. Christine says:

The “huge contribution” Aboriginal people have made to the country –
Wyatt is another who won’t say what that is. The interviewers don’t ask.

  4. Buccaneer says:

A guy who was a minister says his people haven’t had a seat at the table and wants to leverage this patent falsehood to ensure his racial group has a greater say than every other racial group.

Did any journalist ask him what he thinks liberal party value might be? He clearly has NFI.

  5. Crusader says:

Christine: love they neighbour as thyself. Though I am presuming you are Christian?

  6. Rafiki says:

If the representatives of the Voice operated simply as do lobbyists then there is no great objection. But if course they won’t. And the High Court might rule that certain guidelines a d practices must be followed. The court might – or might not-take into account that ministerial and responsible government are foundation stones of our system. The court has enormous room to choose.

One particular issue will be whether the Voice Aboriginals get access to documents not available to others, such as Cabinet submissions. Such information is often by itself of commercial value, such as new tax proposals. It could be traded for profit, or used to make profit as does an inside trader.

  7. Bruce of Newcastle says:

It’s quite revealing that these people don’t seem to realize that the Voice will be made up of urban aboriginal people who are all Labor supporters.

Thus the Voice will veto anything the Libs try to do, should they ever gain government. As a political coup goes it is right up there with Venezuela. Australia will effectively become a one party state.

  8. Tel says:

They are so hungry for power, they can’t even hold themselves back and act sweet for six months.

This third chamber is attracting exactly the worst people … Wyatt had plenty of opportunity and didn’t achieve much … might be time for someone else’s voice.

  9. bollux says:

These Voice proponents continue to affirm that aboriginals are of lower intelligence than any other group in Australia and need a leg up at every opportunity. This should surely disqualify them from advising any government on anything.

  10. Christine says:

    Presumptuous of you, Crusader

You probably love your cat. If he’s a mouser, then he could be considered a contributor. You’ll have evidence of his contributions.

  11. jupes says:

“I had to weigh up my love of the Liberal Party and its values, and what it stands for, against a stubborn position of not wanting to give Aboriginal people a seat at the table,” Mr Wyatt said.

Says the man who had a cabinet seat at the table of a Coalition government.

Also, I’d be interested to know what exactly are the “values” of the Liberal Party and “what it stands for”.

  12. Morsie says:

I am sure ADVISEdoes not have the same meaning to Boice advocates as it does to the rest of us

  13. Morsie says:

I am sure ADVISEdoes not have the same meaning to Voice advocates as it does to the rest of us

  14. Foxbody says:

Interesting that the “Voice” activists wish to reintroduce some of the worst aspects of
governance as practised by the invaders of 1788 –

A House of Lords with a power of veto, the membership being inherited; als
The effective creation of Rotten Boroughs where the local Big Men appoint the representatives.

It looks like back to the future for democratic government, and, in practice, a real reduction in the effective value of the vote of the “rank and file” citizen.

  15. Ed Case says:

These Voice proponents continue to affirm that aboriginals are of lower intelligence than any other group in Australia and need a leg up at every opportunity.Aborigines are just a handy victim group to exploit.
Descendants of Irish slave labourers sent to colonial Australia doesn’t push as many buttons.
This should surely disqualify them from advising any government on anything.
No Ethnic Group should be advising any Australian Government.
    Don’t worry, though.
Any Aborigines on The Voice will just be Placeholders, not Decision makers.

  16. John says:

Is this the same Wyatt that was subservient to “Professor” Pascoe? Are his qualifications similar to World Championship Wrestling’s Professor Tanaka? Are we supposed to take these people and institutions seriously?

  17. Riversutra says:

the Voice will be made up of urban aboriginal people who are all Labor supporters.
Thus the Voice will veto anything the Libs try to do,

It appeals to my black sense of humor that The Voice will be brought into existence to silence any “other” voices.
I remain slack jawed at the Libs blind refusal to see the two reasons for the Voice: a big new trough for the selected snouts and the end of any power for them.
If you are not in politics to wield power, what’s the point?

  18. Texas Jack says:

Serving up unwatchable tripe, Sarah Ferguson reaffirms my long held conviction that the Coalition’s tolerance of the ABC is a massive own-goal.
Notice her lead-in line? “Ken Wyatt, you resigned from the Liberal Party the day after Peter Dutton came out against the Voice.
Dolts in the Coalition keep this thing alive to what end? What voters do they hope to endear themselves to by keeping it?

  19. cuckoo says:

Serving up unwatchable tripe, Sarah Ferguson

FWIW even some of my rusted-on lefty friends can’t stand her.

  20. Boambee John says:

    Crusader

    That wasn’t Christine’s question.

But you knew that, you were just trolling.

  21. Boambee John says:

    Grandpa Ed Simpson

What evidence do you have to support your statement that “Any Aborigines on The Voice will just be Placeholders, not Decision makers.”?

  22. Ed Case says:

I’ll see your Sarah Ferguson and raise you a Patricia Karvelas.

Here’s the point of the ABC:

It raises most of the important issues.
It’s paternalistic to imagine the average Australian can’t see thru PK, Ferguson, O’Brien or any of the scores of talking heads spinning ALP agitprop and draw their own conclusions.
I mean, what are you going to learn watching Netflix?

  23. Ed Case says:

    P.S.
Only see the ABC during their Election Night coverage.
It used to be Leigh Sales or someone presentable.

Never seen [or heard!!] Sarah Ferguson or P.K. on TV before 25th March and the Aston ByElection,
It’s a shock, for sure, we’re being Trolled, but realistically,

    It’s kinda funny
