Both sides are hopelessly corrupt. The situation is somewhat analogous to WW2 invasion of Sicily. The Americans tacitly allowed the Mafia to exist in a defacto alliance with the Allies. We all have seen the eventual cost of that decision, but it was a strategic convenience at the time.

Whether the West loses interest and allows Putin to win is yet to be determined. It’s quite possible. I suppose the main dynamic is what China does. So far I think China is quite happy for Russia to be taken down a notch or two, especially since it has been weakening the West at the same time. Sometimes the enemy of your enemy is still your enemy though, and China has long distrusted Russia.

There were small signs that Ukraine was getting slightly less corrupt during the Trump Presidency, with some assistance from the EU, but Biden has again pretty much killed that even as he did as Obama’s veep. The real issue is whether the corruption kills the host. It just might. On the other hand there’s been plenty written about that regarding Russia too, particularly the equipment issues the Russian Army had early on during the conflict.

Yes, but Western taxpayers struggling to feed their families are not funding Russia.

I’d be interested to know who had a lazy $3 million in greenbacks to give him and what was being bought. This is a country that’s demanding we give them free military vehicles, amongst other things.

Quite right CL. The Nazi Ukrainians are hopelessly corrupt. Whereas the invading Russians are clean as the driven snow, have never corruptly intervened in US politics and are messengers for peace – and a revision to Medieval social mores.

That’s not going to change. As I said on the other thread the Dems will steal the election and control the primary to get the candidate they want. It’s clear that they like the war as good for feathering their own nests and getting the political outcomes they want, eg. in green policy.

The EU is the same, they like the war for similar political and policy reasons although they’d prefer the Americans to pay for it.

It’ll be interesting to see if Hungary jumps ship. That’s possible. However the EU will be working very hard to undercut Orban.

Hungary Blocks €500 Million In EU Weapons Funding For Ukraine After Kiev Sanctions Hungary’s Biggest Bank (17 May)

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU member states approved on May 5 the joint purchase by EU countries of artillery ammunition and missiles for Ukraine worth €1 billion, the EU Foreign Affairs Council announced on Friday. The aid, approved as part of the European Peace Facility, will allow the Ukrainian armed forces to be supplied with 155-millimeter caliber artillery ammunition and rockets.

A day before the council’s decision, the Ukrainian National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACC) included OTP Bank in the list of international war sponsors. This decision was justified by the position of the bank’s management on the continuation of its activities in Russia and the de facto recognition of the so-called “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk.

It has also been revealed that Ukraine planned to blow up a vital Russian pipeline supplying oil to Hungary in order to cripple Hungary’s industry, according to leaked U.S. intelligence documents. The news has been met with shock in Hungary, with one security analyst saying it amounted to an attack on Hungary, and therefore an attack on NATO.

The EU may try to buy Hungary off, or fudge a way around Hungary’s veto, but the Hungarians do sound rather unhappy. I doubt anything will happen quickly enough to make much difference though.

They are expecting a power vacuum after Russia takes their slice … everything East of the Dneiper … and the remainder of the Ukraine turns into a land grab for “reconstruction” contracts.

The IMF have loaned out a lot of Other People’s Money, and probably think they might get some return on investment. Various other funds have signed on … and even weirder, check out this link.

The Ukrainian leadership are eager to say whatever the European Elite want to hear in a buzzword driven recovery. Any place you find unfortunate people you will also fine “altruists” wanting to take advantage of those people … war is no exception.

C.L the followers of Stepan Bandera know what they want … and the IMF are going to ensure they get it … good-n-hard, as the saying goes.
