Pasifika people have the highest rates of obesity in the country followed by Māori, according to Dr Tukuitonga, but have the lowest rates of bariatric surgery – procedures that make changes to the digestive system in order to help people lose weight.
“There’s no good reason why this is, because one would expect the surgical intervention rates would be higher for Māori and Pasifika people,” he said.

Bariatric surgery has a failure rate of up to 35%, you can never eat normally again including no microwaved foods and no sugar substitutes like sorbitol. There is also a very high divorce rate post procedure. There is also a school of thought that the changes to micro biome involved in sterilisation for the procedure might be more influential than the surgery itself.
Maybe Māori and pasifika people are happy with their size. Does bmi really encompass their branch of humanity with a relevant representation?
These questions seem more relevant to ask before resorting to a assumed victim status.
I don’t know about nowadays, but 70 years ago if you were a Samoan man and had a fat wife, it was a sign of how well you looked after her and was something to aspire to. Maybe it was the same for all Polynesians.
Wrong in principle, highly racist, and is also a violation of medical ethics.
Pasifika?!
Utterly ridiculous.
Yeah, that was a new one for me.
No wonder NZ is a divided shithole and international laughingstock.
Not that the rest of the Western world is much better, with Australian rapidly heading down the same road, especially if the Voice gets up.
Same Kiwi Government under that braindead bint Adern that did this with the sanctioning of doctors and nurses:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-07/nz-takes-custody-of-baby-from-anti-vax-parents/101746236
The parents had the blood organised, the state and so called professionals couldn’t be wrong. Then there’s the NZ cops involved who were a heartless pack of pr&%$s that executed warrant.
Feel sorry for those who didn’t vote for miss vacuous but the majority of NZ did even after her disastrous first term. Sorry sympathy ends there but there is a definite warning for Australia…
‘The attention the Brittany Higgins case got in contrast to ours was quite stark’ (Interview)
Pasifika.
Maoris always called Pacific Islanders “Coconuts”. Because they floated into NZ from across the ocean.

What a load of crap.
The Baddie got 13 years, but she wasn’t happy with the Prosecution?
Gimme a break.
The Voice will absolutely wreck this country. Will a majority of the 96% non indigenous people vote themselves into second class status, I don’t know.
If you think housing is expensive now, wait until this indigenous racket has been running for a few years. Four percent will own 96% of the natural resources and the vast proportion of that will go to indigenous people and causes. Constitutionally, and ethically and legally, there will be two classes of people. One class, citizens, will be more important than the second class, the subjects. Australia will no longer be called Australia, nor will NSW be called NSW. Likewise, Queensland and the other states and territories. It’s going to end up a third world dive.
It’s going to end up a third world dive.
Don’t be too worried – I’m sure Emperor Xi will step in and save the country (for the Chinese).
Didn’t Scummo bring in legislation to allow foreign troops to operate in Australia?
(Though that Legislation may have been intended to allow WHO to enforce the new Pandemic Treaty that our “Leaders” have/or will have soon signed)
Don’t blame the Indigenous, it isn’t their idea.
The Voice will be like a President, with the Powers of a King.
Same as the Governor-General, when it gives Advice, the Parliament obeys without question.
In Oz, if you’re old and need a new knee in the public system you’re behind all the fat Maoris in the queue
