Boom Town Spat

Why can’t you just utilise what’s there? And say to the International Olympic Committee: ‘This is our bid. We’re just using what’s here. We’ve got stadiums. They’re not the best. They’re not swish architecture. But we’re going to have the best athletes – they’re going to stay with Mrs Meggins in 5 Acacia Ave.’ And if they don’t like it, don’t come.”

And not borrow all that money to waste on the tax eaters?

You’ve got to be joking Sir Bob!

  2. Baba says:

‘Our Gabba needs to be rebuilt,’ she claimed. ‘It’s actually reached end of life.’

    Bullshit.

  3. Petros says:

I’m sure we’ll end up with some great public infrastructure if Stacey has her way. /sarc

  4. Lee says:

Australia would be literally absolutely broke without the much denigrated mining sector.

Having said that, I don’t like billions of taxpayers’ money being thrown away on the Olympics or other sports, especially since we already have the stadia.

  5. Entropy says:

Actually the Brisbane (really SEQ) olympics is mostly using existing or sprucing up existing. Very low cost overall compared with recent times’ excesses.

Not sure what the problem is with the Gabba though, apart from being polluted by AFL.
I had a lovely nosh-up at the cricket club a few months ago. The view was marvellous.
Maybe that is the problem: not enough VIP boxes

  6. Entropy says:

It will be not enough integration with public transport. Rebuild the western end to integrate with the busway and the cross river rail.

Just sent Carosene a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Australia

  8. C.L. says:

I’ve always wondered how Bob financed an entire life on I Don’t Like Mondays but I read somewhere that he’s quite a smart bastard and he got in very early on Apple stock, inter alia. Not sure if it’s true.

  9. Doggy says:

I believe he came up with the original TV series Survivor.

  10. Buccaneer says:

He got in early on the virtue signal scam with we are the world. How much went into sideshow bobs pockets instead of starving people in Africa? Back then no one thought twice, these days there are so many shonky charities that are basically fund raisers for rich people to fund and extravagant life on the party circuit, that one would have trouble knowing which one are real and which are fake.

Carosene and EV’s. What could go wrong?

First world elitist problems are such a trial!

She’s saving the planet for the decreased children of the future, don’t you know?

  12. NFA says:

    Paris Olympics should be fun!

  13. Entropy says:

One of my biggest regrets was not doing more to get my father in Law, a trader, to invest in Apple stock. At the time we were on a livery low single income so it wasn’t in the realm of possible.
anyway, Apple stock at the time was USD$13, in about 2000 or 2001 as I recall. It was weird, its cash was worth more than its stock price. it’s dead, my FiL said. Since then the stock has split about seven times or so and is now $195.

  14. Rockdoctor says:

Cancel this pork barreling for an already overserviced corner of the state.

Really don’t know whats in it for the LNP. On present projections Chrisifulli will be a distant memory politics wise and organising staff again will be stacked with ALP apparatchiks.

Oh I won’t even start on the virtue sinalling to the third waves of migration, LGTIP, insert lefty cause etc…

  15. Ed Case says:

One negative is that the East Brisbane State School is being demolished and the School moved a mile and a half up Stanley St to become an Annexe of Coorparoo High.
I doubt there’s enough kids living in East Brisbane anymore to fill up Grade One, but the buildings date from about 1895 and haven’t been butchered under the pretense of Asbestos remediation and Sun Safety like most of the rest.
