  1. NFA says:

We need to stop giving money to their governments so they cannot spend nor borrow without setting out a budget for election.

  2. calli says:

The Doomlord right on the money…again.

Even the financiers from…elsewhere…won’t touch DangerDan. Things must be dire.

  3. NFA says:

$60 per hour to work on the Victorian tunnels to no-where!

  4. Rohan says:

The tunnel and other infrastructure/Dan’s vanity projects, have wracked up a lot of PEFOS contaminated debt.

  5. Buccaneer says:

Unfortunately, no one told him he’s run out of other peoples money, he’s still spending the $2b on sporting infrastructure and whatever the break contract costs are rather than fixing ambulance ramping

  6. Old Lefty says:

Apart from its obvious roots in anti-Catholic bigotry, the annexation of Calvary Hospital in the ACT raises the same problem of sovereign risk: who will now sign a contract with an Australian government? First they came for the Catholics ….

  7. Perplexed of Brisbane says:

I wonder if there will be a ‘surprise’ benefactor in the form of the Chinese government in a kind of belt and road, quid pro quo kind of deal?

  8. C.L. says:

Spooner and Leak are a great duo.

I wonder if there will be a ‘surprise’ benefactor in the form of the Chinese government in a kind of belt and road, quid pro quo kind of deal?

There’s talk of the UK stepping in. What a humiliation.

  9. NFA says:

The communists will just ‘tune up’ Chalmer’s budget, hold a meeting of their National Cabinet, borrow more Chyna money and allocate accordingly!

Underground tunnels to no-where are much more profitable than piddling games.

  10. Lee says:

The tunnel and other infrastructure/Dan’s vanity projects, have wracked up a lot of PEFOS contaminated debt.

The Melbourne rail loop budget, already vastly over budget, could well end up costing north of a quarter of a trillion dollars in my opinion.

All so Andrews can look great to posterity, at least so he thinks.

Never mind the crippling debts Victorians will have to pay for generations to come.

  11. Rafiki says:

Cancellation of the Commonwealth Games may assist the Chinese government to gain influence and control in the small (and especially from our point of view, Pacific nations) that would have sent teams to the Games. The Games are the only sort of world stage on which athletes from these nations could compete with some hope of success. These occasions are the cause of pride and celebration when even minor medals are won. The officials and politicians who accompany the athletes are also points of contact with counterparts in the big host country. The goodwill thus created runs over into influence building in wider political and economic spheres.
Cancellation of the Games will undermine this goodwill. Australia’s reputation in the Pacific will be diminished, making it easier for the Chinese to exert theirs. Perhaps they might offer to sponsor a Games tailored to appeal to the Pacific nations, via cash handouts and the like.
i realise that this is speculation. More speculative is whether Andrews might have noted these possible outcomes.

  12. NFA says:

And to think the communist labor ‘boys’ wouldn’t build the SE Freeway tunnel extension!

It would be cheaper to stop the tunnels, shut the passenger rail service entirely and just turn the tracks into bus lanes.

  13. Rafiki says:

I agree with Perplexed too. Andrews may well announce to Victorians that he has done a deal with a Chinese company to build infrastrucure and provide finance (although he will deny hat it’s a belt and road deal). He has Albanese over a barrel on the basis that he owes it to Victorian Labor given that it has destroyed the Victorian Liberals.
