Once again I am reminded of that Yes Prime Minister episode in choosing the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I can never understand why someone who did not believe in Christ and desire to practice the gospel would want to be a theologian. Just be yet another useless social worker already.

    “…and all that…”
    So flippant

Yet their plan is to energise the Church’s future.

  4. Christine says:

    No, I have it wrong
It’s actually worse – “any of that”

    Is the whole quote:

“We do not want to convert young people to Christ, or to the Catholic Church, or any of that. World Youth Day is for poker… a full, solemn day of poker. We don’t want any of that Christian stuff distracting. Capeesh!”

  8. Christine says:

    ha ha

    Now it makes sense!
    A day of poker

    Bit of extra WYD stuff:

Pope Francis Slams ‘Populism and Conspiracy Theories’ in Lisbon Address (2 Aug)

Pope Francis began his four-day visit to Portugal for World Youth Day by blasting capitalism, populism, and insufficient attention to migrants and climate change.

“According to classical mythology, the ocean is a child of the sky (Uranus); its vastness leads mortals to look up and rise to infinity,” Francis said. “But, at the same time, the ocean is the son of the earth (Gea) that embraces, thus inviting to envelop the entire inhabited world with tenderness.”

He does say some reasonable stuff, although I have no idea what he’s on about with that paragraph. The problem is that ranting about capitalism and supposed conspiracy theories, which are more likely than not to be true, is not a good look. Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and render to God that which is His. I think he should stick to the latter.

Argentineans are the one of the last people to go to for economic device. Unless it is what not to do.

    Well, yes.

Because personal sin is soooo old hat. You can’t be too careful when ignoring it. People might become aware of their great need and vow to do something about it.
