Just as the US and other so-called developed countries have cultural values which inform what is acceptable and/or unacceptable within their respective jurisdictions, Ghana, as a sovereign nation, also has cultural and religious values that guide, inform and guarantee the sustenance, harmony and cohesiveness of our communities, and we do not intend to compromise those values for LGBTQI+ investors.
We find it unacceptable as a sovereign country that such intimidating insinuations are being made by high ranking and respected officials. Christian, Muslim, traditional and other religious groups constitute over 95 per cent of Ghana’s population.

The fashionable minority interests being promoted by Western governments may play well at the domestic margins. They also play directly into a (arguably, the) core BRICS+ philosophy: “concern about the use of unilateral coercive measures”.
There’s not much cultural continuity between BRICS members past, present and emerging. But First World finger-wagging, particularly regarding issues locally considered to be blindingly obviously degenerate, is a dead set binder.
We won’t interfere in the internal politics of other countries but we will punish them for not having the same values as ourselves. The hypocrisy is not remarkable but inexcusable. I’m still trying to figure out why in recent years the LGBTQi community has gained so much political and corporate power.
Three major factors: Hollywood; academia in search of new ‘soft science’ avenues of research fame and fortune; and the Pink Dollar.
