Rod Dreher on Viktor Orbán and the Constantinian imperative

The Soviet Union told you that you had to worship Lenin. The State Department tells you you have to worship transvestites. It’s not so different. It’s a foreign power pushing its weird boutique religion on you. It’s wrong. You worship whatever you want. It’s your country. I love my country but the people who run it now are dangerous and insane.”

    From Rod Dreher’s article

This is what it means to have a leader who is a Christian and not ashamed of it. This is what it means to have a leader who believes that the faith that was inseparable from the founding of the nation is vital to its survival.

    AND
“What was unthinkable in Hungary in 1956 is happening in 2023, and what happened in New York in 1956 is unthinkable in 2023.”

    Thank you C.L.

  3. Old School Conservative says:

A powerful speech, delivered without reading a script.
    Clever bloke.

  4. Cassie of Sydney says:

Thank you C.L. for that. I’ve long been an admirer of Rod Dreher. I met him a few years ago when he visited this country to give talks here for the Ramsay Centre. He’s a formidable intellect.

  5. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Yeah, the green-progressive cult doesn’t like Christians.

The New Climate Apocalypticism: ‘Intellectuals fulfilling a societal function previously served by religious leaders’ (26 Aug)

Now they have trannies as high priests they have the full set of religious doctrines.

  6. Entropy says:

Back in the day the intellectuals were monks. So, not that different.

  7. terry says:

Thank you… much appreciated. “Dare to be different.” God’s ways are the right ways.

  8. NFA says:

They will have Tucker Carlson on some charge next.

    Interviews Trump, strike 1;
    Delivers condemnation of American ‘deep state’ Ambassador to Hungary, strike 2;
Rumoured to be seeking an interview with Putin which, if it happens, should be sufficient to lock him away for keeps!

  9. jrm says:

Lovely. But I wish people would stop saying coronated.

  10. C.L. says:

Budapest is healing – the city is erasing the brutalist blight left over from its communist past, and rebuilding lost architecture destroyed during WW2.

A thread of uplifting before and after shots 🧵

I cringed when I heard someone in the media use the word the other day.

We already have a word for it, it is “crowned.”

  12. Wyndham Dix says:

Two remembrances from the culture contemporaneous with the image of NYC in the Dreher tweet:

    A Man Called Peter
    I’ll Walk With God

    How are the mighty fallen!

  13. C.L. says:

    God, I hope he’s wrong.
But his prediction is entirely believable.

  14. Lee says:

I hope he’s wrong too, but I don’t think there are any depths that the morally and ethically bankrupt Democrats wouldn’t sink to in order to retain power.

In this they would have the support of the neocons including those in the Republican Party as well as the military industrial complex.

  15. Lee says:

These are the same people who said not vote for Trump as he was going to start World War III.

  16. C.L. says:

In this they would have the support of the neocons including those in the Republican Party…

As I’ve argued before, the neocons have been the real traitors of ‘democracy’ and ‘our values’ for the past six years. Apart from Adam Creighton, The Australian has largely run dead on the Democrat Party’s political crime wave.

    Because AUKUS and UKWAINE.

It’s ironic because the neocon brand is supposed to be all about the victory of democracy – but they have shown no interest whatsoever in defending it. Greg Sheridan recently wrote a column (a rare column) on Joe Biden’s corruption. This he described as merely “appalling.”

In the same column he twice described Trump as “despicable.”

See, these people don’t really care which party wins or what crimes administrations commit. They only care that America is constantly at war; constantly killing people somewhere. For democracy – LOL.

Including their own, which is the most chilling part.

But the Elites don’t have to worry about their own sons and daughters having to go off and fight and die in foreign wars so some can make a profit.

Biden and his admin has been doing vastly more damage to America (and the world) in every respect than Trump could dream of (not that he would want to).

  19. twostix says:

I’m old enough to remember when Trump was elected soy faced retards all across the globe hysterically declaring that – as the Russian spy that they knew he was – he would immediately start WW3 and we would all die in thermonuclear war…with Russia.

All he did was briefly interrupt the neocon plan to start WW3 which they – started in 2014 in Ukraine.

  20. twostix says:

If Trump had of let neocons continue doing what they had been in Ukraine, he’d still be president today.

Essentially if Trump had of let Victoria Nuland and her husband’s masters keep operating they would have left him alone.

I mean, you really cannot make this shit up…

Nuland’s husband, Robert Kagan, is a historian, foreign policy commentator at the Brookings Institution, and co-founder in 1998 of the neoconservative Project for the New American Century (PNAC).[46] She has two children.[47]

  21. twostix says:

Also isn’t it always weird when you look into these ‘neoconservatives’, there’s always strange things in their lives…

Victoria Jane Nuland (born July 1, 1961) also known as Toria Nuland[2

They work in public under aliases and such. Very Weird.

“In the same column he twice described Trump as “despicable.””

Yes, I remember how last year in a piece he wrote he described the Sniffer as a “good man”. I nearly fell off my chair after reading that.

I find it funny how Dribbler Sheridan is the go to expert on Sky on “foreign policy”. And he’s always invariably lauded by Blot or Credlin when he appears on screen. I now switch off or turn down the volume but I usually switch off because I find even looking at him on the screen to be off putting, he’s pathetic, feeble, and strange. Perhaps I shouldn’t be so cruel but his nasty comments on Trump warrant some castigation because Dribbler seems incapable of penning any nuance, understanding, or serious intellectual curiosity about Trump. I suppose he has a good home at Sky because the media outlet parrots Dribbler’s rantings about AUKUS, Washington and so on. The only compere on Sky who’s actually thought outside the box re. the war in Ukraine has been Bernardi (and actually, his programme is one of the best on Sky). Personally, I think Dribbler Sheridan is a grub, whose used by date passed years ago. He should be put out to pasture. He’s an expert on nothing, actually I’m wrong, he’s an expert on beating the drums of war. Okay, he was good with Pell, as was Blot, but that travesty was blindingly obvious. Both men, on almost everything else, are appalling hysterics who can’t or refuse to think outside the square.

He’s a sad sack of mediocrity, he even looks the part. In reality, when he uses the word “despicable”, he describes himself.

  23. Lee says:

Yes, I remember how last year in a piece he [Sheridan] wrote he described the Sniffer as a “good man”.

ScoMo said effectively the same about Biden.

    Says heaps about his judgement.

  24. C.L. says:

    Cassie brings it.
