The former soldiers, angered by attempts to remove Afghanistan war decorations over alleged atrocities, …

    Not quite.
The Defence Force Chiefs response to allegations of atrocities made by former and serving Special Forces was Collective Punishment, i.e., everyone is stripped of their Afghanistan Medals [apart from the Chiefs].
    That’s the real issue.

“The DSC was only to be awarded for ‘distinguished command and leadership in action’ (and later, ‘in warlike operations’).”

To expand on that point. The original officers awarded the DSC did so by leading troops in combat. The fop brass looked on their subordinates in the mess with jealousy, so, lo and behold, the criteria was changed to ‘in warlike operations’. That way, woke fuckwits like Campbell could get one by sitting in an airconditioned office over 1000km away in Dubai.

Now, I don’t know whether that’s illegal, however it is utterly immoral to devalue the hard earned gongs of junior leaders that way. Stolen valour.

    Separate issue Ed. Try harder.

Yeah, but shenanigans among Lietenant Generals and the like goes back to at least WW2, it’s a constant.
Using Collective Punishment to squelch dissent from their Narrative, that’s the real scandal.
They did similar after the Voyager Disaster, it’s a story that never gets old.

    Stolen valour

Reminds me of Stark’s War, if you are into military sci fi.

I honestly think that this is a terribly unfair assessment.

After all, a 2000lb JDAM has a distinct sonic signature, that’s quite unlike any other weapons platform. I have it on good authority that it’s impossible to replicate using FFT synthesis, due to the huge amount of discontinuities in the 1-13hz range and subsequent 2nd, 3rd and 5th harmonics. To put it simply, they have a unique “ring”.

I agree, and you are only nibbling at the top of a mighty iceberg there.

Reward for merit has been systematically replaced with rewards for maaaates. This is not a military thing … it’s everywhere. Won’t be long before military decorations are roughly equivalent to AOTY awards … or even might drop to the level of those Wokeley things they give to the churnalists who prove capable of faithfully copy-n-pasting press releases.

University degrees are more about reciting a Code of Conduct, and various feel-good affirmation statements, instead of studying Physics, Chemistys, Maths & Engineering. Business leadership these days means being very astute to the latest subsidy opportunity and somewhat politically connected, to ensure bones get thrown in your direction.

In summary, we got long marched … nothing after that should be a surprise.

    Oh look…

ADF’s recruiting crisis ‘getting worse’ under Albanese government (19 Oct)

Between totalitarian vaccination mandates, persecution of soldiers through the court system, and woke craziness, you can see why few guys want to sign up. It’s just not worth it.

  10. C.L. says:

Bruce, funnily enough the ADF has been running a new recruitment ad on free-to-air this week. It’s still the “my ADF” theme and it’s target market is still women.
